Gaby Fleischman of CBS Miami reports:
A community stood united Monday night as members continue to look for answers in the death of a rabbi murdered while walking to synagogue to pray.
“We feel like we’re under attack and we really need to see the response that’s coming from the community leaders from law enforcement about what can be done to being this to an end,” said Steve Glueck.
Glueck is among those wanting to end the unnerving feeling that has swept through the primarily Jewish neighborhood.
“I personally feel not as safe as I did a month ago,” said Michael Levin.
“I carry mace around, you never know you need some protection, you never know police can’t be there every minute,” added Laraine Stern.
Investigators said Rabbi Joseph Raksin was shot to death by two young men in early August in northeast Miami-Dade in what was likely a botched robbery.
“While the crime rate is low and the crime is down significantly, one crime especially this nature has evoked significant fear. One crime is too many,” said Sally Heyman, a Miami-Dade County Commissioner.
Detectives announced to about 100 community members who attended the meeting that they have made significant progress, but can’t prematurely release details on the investigation.
“We will not rest until we solve this case,” said Andy Glass with Miami-Dade’s Police Homicide Bureau.
Since the murder, neighborhood patrols have increased, but police said they need the community to act as their eyes and ears.
It’s about getting rid of the fear factor through education and empowerment.
“Try to unite community in looking for solutions,” added Mayor George Vallejo of North Miami Beach.
“Do whatever we can do to help keep our streets safe most families in our neighborhood have small children so were all concerned about them,” said Levin.

It not a matter of philosophy. It’s a matter of practical reality. I don’t mean to sound condescending or pretentious but you are looking at the entire issue completely backwards! It’s not the inyan of being eiver dina d’malchusa dina, the question is actually; are you allowed to live in a place where the local governing authority made it illegal and a crime to implement the means to protect yourself and be mekayem the tzivouy of “ou sh’martem es nafshoisechem” and “kol ha’bah l’harog hashkeim l’hargo.” (One of the better known places that had laws similar in this respect of… Read more »
I agree with you philosophically. I am waiting for a posek to say what we do when we live somewhere that does not give concealed carry permits. Are we allowed to be eiver dina d’malchusa dina?
More people meed to know about the $50.000 reward
and what happend with the klien murder they nevor foun him.
The frum community has to wake up to the reality of the situation!! As anyone who knows anything about theses situations will tell you “when seconds count, the police are ONLY MINUTES away!!” Concealed carry, proper firearms training and practice (along of course with checked Mezuzos, Tzedakah and all other forms of divine protection) are a must for any Jew in today’s day and age!! If Yosef Raksin (the Holtzbergs or any other of the Karbonos) HY”D would have been carrying a concealed weapon which he was proficient in it’s use, I highly doubt that we would need to be… Read more »

Common tactic that anti-Jewish Africans use against innocents. The purpose is to terrorize and isolate communities or individuals without leaving behind evidence.
