Prime Minister Stephen Harper is reiterating his government’s hard line against Hamas, saying it is solely responsible for the death and destruction in Gaza.
Harper said that while no one likes to see the suffering and loss that is occurring in the Middle East, Hamas is to blame.
The prime minister said Hamas started the war because the terrorist organization wants to destroy the state of Israel.
Harper added that if a terrorist organization were attacking Canadians, there would be a similar response from Canada.

Israeli strikes hit a crowded shopping area in Gaza City Wednesday, hours after tank shells tore through the walls of a U.N. school crowded with war refugees in the deadliest of a series of air and artillery attacks that pushed the Palestinian death toll above 1,300 in more than three weeks of fighting.
The bloodshed came on the heels of an escalation by both sides fighting in the embattled coastal territory, further dimming prospects for a sustainable ceasefire despite international diplomatic efforts.
The attack prompted the U.S. to level its harshest criticism against Israel after almost a month of fighting between Israelis and Hamas militants.
The attack on the U.N. school in the Jebaliya refugee camp was the second deadly strike on a U.N. compound in a week. Tank shells slammed into the compound before dawn, said Adnan Abu Hasna, a spokesman for the U.N. Relief and Works Agency, UNRWA, which is sheltering more than 200,000 people displaced by the fighting at dozens of U.N. schools across Gaza.
Gaza health ministry official Ashraf Al-Kidra said at least 17 people were killed and about 90 wounded in the school strike. Four of the dead were killed just outside the school compound, two in their home nearby and two in the street, after returning from pre-dawn prayers, their relatives said.
The Israeli military said it fired back after its soldiers were targeted by mortar rounds launched from the vicinity of the school.

Read it well. It reports what the prime minister ‘said’ but then goes on to describe the destruction done to the gaza residents, reports nothing about what Israel has been going through and mentions in a rather weak line at the end that Israel was responding to a Hamas attack ‘in the vicinity’. The tone of the article suggests that it disagrees with the prime minister’s viewpoint. The overall message is biased.
When the world gives terrorists- anything, they are doing it because they don’t value anyone’s life at all, including the Arab communities. What they value is evil and destruction and that’s why they can’t stand Israel and the Jews who personify goodness. People who support terrorists are not humanitarians and don’t care about the welfare of anyone besides themselves- any actions that would depict them as merciful are purely hypocritical and self serving.
We’re lucky to have such a man as Prime Minister. May others follow his example.
