An Israeli military soldier took CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on a tour of a tunnel leading from Gaza into Southern Israel.
Blitzer walked part of the two-mile concrete-lined tunnel built by Hamas, accompanied by Israeli military reports CNN.
The underground routes have been the focus of the attacks between Israel and Gaza in recent weeks.
The concrete lining the tunnel walls came from Israel, said Deputy Commander of Israel’s Southern Gaza Brigade, Lt. Col. Oshik Azouli. The concrete was intended to build schools and hospitals, but was instead used to line tunnels in the network he continued.
According to Azouli, the tunnel ended near a kibbutz in Israel.
Palestinian parliament member Mustafa Barghouti says the tunnels are a defensive tactic against Israeli invasions.
Israel’s military has so far found approximately 30 tunnels and has destroyed about half.
