The Manalapan Semicha Yeshiva, a growing semicha program directed by Rabbi Levi Schapiro, is becoming known as a great place to learn and prepare for the semicha “farher” (test).
Spearheading the program is Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Levi Schapiro, who has been running the Semicha program in Manalapan, NJ for the past 15 years. The Semicha test is given by Rabbi Ashkenazi and Rabbi Tzinor, well known Rabbanim.
What is outstanding about the program under the leadership of Rabbi Schapiro is that the bochurim are nurtured in their personal Chassishe growth. This approach to teach the “whole person” is what makes the program in Manalapan unique. Rabbi Schapiro reaches out to each student and develops a special relationship that helps the bochur succeed in his learning and ultimately passing the farher. Rabbi Schapiro knows how to explain complex halachic topics with clarity and with tremendous patience.
The program is held in Manalapan, in a non-stressful environment – the local community being a warm and welcoming place. The bochurim easily adjust and are embraced by everyone. This allows for the bochurim to learn and grow at their own pace. The yeshiva is located in a relaxed and quiet setting away for distractions, leaving time to focus just on learning.
An added advantage is the close proximity to Crown Heights – being close to Crown Heights allows the bochurim to go home or visit family on a regular basis. It also allows for the bochurim to participate in simchas of family and friends. The bochurim also have access to a car.
The bochurim also benefit from personalized attention – the size of the group will reflect the ability to give each bochur personal attention in learning and in spiritual growth. The program does not accept more than 12 students to maintain this special attention.
The year also presents to the bochurim a Shlichus learning opportunity, with the bochurim involved in learning with the various members of the community. This gives the bochur some experience in organizing programs and getting some hands on training for shlichos. The bochurim also have opportunities to teach Bar Mitzvah lessons and will receive remuneration for their time.
The fee for the year is $5000. This includes room, board and tuition. There is a Pell Grant that many may be eligible for. For more information about the Yeshiva click here or email [email protected].

Rabbi Schapiro is truly an amazing teacher and person, and he cares about each and every bochur that goes through his doors,
If you’re in doubt about where to go, I recommend you choose this place, You won’t regret it.
This is one Smicha program that gives the Bochurim a home. It’s not just a yeshiva. The Bochurim become family with Rabbi Schapiro, the Shluchim, and the families from the community.
This is something that is hard to find among Yeshivos. Speak to guys who learned here, and see if it’s a good fit for your needs. I would recommend seriously considering it.
