At the L’Chaim engagement party of Zevi Goldin and Chana Simon held last Thursday in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Crown Heights there was an unusual guest.
The towering African-American male, dressed in a white shirt and suit, was warmly greeted by the families of both the bride and the groom, and other locals who were able to recognize him.
His name is Terry Spiersand he’s often seen visiting the local homes and offices dressed in the brown uniform of the UPS shipment and logistics company.
Upon seeing him enter the Lubavitcher Yeshiva social hall, the smiling, newly engaged couple came over to him and simply said, “Thank you.”
Terry Spiers was their shadchan. And he even knows what that word means.
As a delivery man and a friendly individual, he has become well-versed in the Chassidic Jewish life and culture from his visits to Lubavitch World Headquarters, Jewish Children’s Museum, Collel Chabad, Shluchim Office and the Jewish Learning Institute.
For the past 2 years, upon visiting the NCFJE office where Mrs. Regina Simon works, Spiers has been telling her that he knows a “great Jewish guy” that would be suitable for her daughter.
“He always tries to put people together,” Mrs. Simon told COLlive.com about Spiers, “but I never looked into it. He told me about this bochur called Zevi Goldin and that he’s a good boy. I didn’t take it seriously.”
It was only on one Shabbos afternoon, when Simon’s married daughter mentioned to her mother to inquire about Zevi Goldin for their Chana, that she took notice.
The mother’s reaction was, “Really?! There’s actually a person named Zevi Goldin?”
Mrs. Simon decided to mention it to Spiers the next time he comes around to the office. “Here is where hashgacha protis plays its part, since Spiers isn’t always the delivery person who comes, and there are times when there aren’t packages or pick-ups,” she notes.
Spiers did show up on Monday, and upon hearing the familiar name he’d been mentioning, he responded: “I’m stopping at the Goldins today too. What do you want me to do?”
They made up that he will get the email of the father, R’ Mordechai Goldin. The Goldins told him they know of the Simons and were interested. At that point, Shloimy Simon, the uncle of the kallah and a local shadchan, got involved.
The rest, as they say, is history.
Mrs. Simon told COLlive she learned that “in order to find a shidduch, you have to be open to hear and not disregard names that come your way – no matter their source. You never know how Hashem will arrange it.”
Well – it’s so hysterical – a friend of mine is a friend of theirs and it’s hard to believe such gr8 things can happen these days!! Wish Amazon can do it too…
so hard to please anyone these days!!! It’s so hard to please anyone these days!!! Here is a partial list of my clients …. I couldn’t even get them one date, and that is why I am finally quitting and going into the pickle business. Avraham Avinu: How can you recommend him to my daughter? Wasn’t he involved in a family feud with his father over some idols? Then he left home without a GPS or a viable business plan! Yitzchak Avinu: His brother is an Arab terrorist!!! Rivka Imeinu: Sorry, she seems nice but did you hear about her… Read more »

Very witty 😉
Will Terry drive the Choson and Kallah to the wedding in his van??
Mazel Tov! Beautiful. May it truly be a Binyan Adei Ad!
Love that story. It should be publicized widely, as an example for today’s crazy world that the Rebbe had his priorities straight in terms of what makes a good shidduch.
Like comment 39. It should be a lesson for everyone.
We should hear many Chasunahs
It should be a binyan adei ad with lots of Nachas and Mazel

This is a beautiful a story but I do have to question, why did she assume there was no one named Zevi Goldin, what did she think that the UPS driver was just making something up?
great young match may they build a binyan adei ad al yesodei hatorah vihamitzvah
Beautiful story!
UPS = United Parcel Shadchonim!
Delivery people, and others in manual labor, have a good sense of who the good people are. They are the ones who notice and say hello and treat everyone with dignity, even if they’re “just” a delivery man.
Lesson: Treat everyone with respect, and you might just get a shidduch out of it!
There is a story about a shoichet saved from death in Uruguay because he always said hello to the hotel concierge. Perhaps somoene can share it.
Such nachas from Henny for looking out for her sister!
So happy for you no matter which way it evolved!
May they have a Binyan Adei Ad!
Chaim & Freida Shpigelman
thanks for sharing
its so inspiring to see how hashem runs the world
While UPS concentrates on first-timers, rival Fed-Ex serves ex-spouses.
Cool…
stop making fun of shadchones gelt .it is very important for the future of the young couple . there is no different between using tefilin that hasn’t been paid to working with a shadchan no matter who he or she is with out paying them .and paying according to today’s standard .mazal tov to the chosen and kalla

Guess shadchangelt will be Mc Donalt or Pizza Hut !!!!
This compels me to mention another point. Many years ago, a young woman from an elite “chabad” family was going out with a bochur who was a baal Teshuva and became serious about him. The devastated father ran to the Rebbe for advice, how could his “worthy” and “choshuve” daughter marry someone who is a baal Teshuva?! and the Rebbe’s response was; “and by me the question is is she worthy of him?!!!!”
Good for Terry, I hope you gave him somthing.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AWESOME GUY
this read like something I might have seen in Talks & Tales .. really beautiful story .. B”H we have this wonderful medium in which such nachas can be shared throughout the world .. mazal tov and keep these wonderful stories coming. ~ Helena Goldberg, Golus, Australia

KOL HAKAVOD TERRY.
What can brown do for you?
But we just need to be constantly aware of it and realize it. And there are all sorts of Shluchim that Hashem sends our way for good things. Just keep yours eyes open for good things to happen and Hashem will do the rest 🙂

The leadership at UPS is definitely good. The UPS guys actually seem to care whether you get your package or not, unlike some other companies and their robotic, inflexible habits.
This guy took it to another level:-)

Shidduch crisis no more!
So happy for them.. Am happy they took the simple route .. People have become way too complicated in the shidduch scene .. Requiring so much to match exactly and so much research .. Let good people just meet each other and let us stop making our own crisis
So proud of the parents that were not getting in Hashems messengers way …
Now that’s real service!
Go Terry!!!! You are the best UPS man ever.
Can’t wait to shmooz with you next time you come by.
