A new Torah will be completed during the annual March of the Living at the Nazi concentration camp in Auschwitz, Poland, on Monday.
The march bring together Jewish teenagers from around the world to learn about the Holocaust and the extinction of over 6 million Jews during World War II.
It was commissioned by Chilean philanthropist and businessman Leonardo Farkas who is known for his affinity for donating new Torah scrolls and his support for the silent march.
A year ago he asked the Lubavitcher sofer Rabbi Schneur Vigler to have it written with the intent to be completed on Israel’s Holocaust Remembrance Day.
“I completed a few Torah scrolls in my life, in Germany, Switzerland, Florida and other places,” Vigler noted.
“It is always a moving event from the personal and communal aspect, but it’s hard to find the words to describe the feeling of completing a Torah at a place where a third of the Jewish nation was annihilated.”
The Torah will be brought to the Kotel in Jerusalem on Israel’s Independence Day on Iyar 5.
Vigler, a resident of the central Israeli city of Rishon L’tziyon, than added: “It is a feeling of triumph.”
Wonderful idea to commemorate the Jews who died
in the Holocaust. Kol Hakavod.
“It’s hard to find the words to describe the feeling of completing a Torah at a place where a third of the Jewish nation was annihilated.”
That comment denotes that there were 18 Million Jews in the world, in the early 1940s. That is not factual. The World Almanac Book of Facts gives the world’s Jewish population at around 15,000,000.
Moshiach now
Mr Vigler, you are a great great soul, you make many jewish people happy, you make me cry when I see the good you do.
Continue, you are loved.
