Tradgedy & Purim
March 14, 2014 12:30 pm

Just 5 years ago I experienced a tragedy right before Purim that changed my life forever. From my experience: When Hashem gives someone a big test, the kind of test that anyone would agree is a “test”…it becomes a time when Hashem makes it possible to have a very high level of simcha. Since the test is beyond understanding and so hard to deal with, it becomes “easy” to throw your hands up and say “Hashem I need your help, big time!” This is when, at least for me, I was able to find simcha, and as a result Hashem… Read more »

A tragic loss
March 14, 2014 12:09 am

May the bereaved family of Rashi Minkowicz bear their mourning through the recollections of their precious memories. As the mother of 8 children myself, such a loss for her husband and children is immeasurable. Her legacy will help them in regaining their recovery.

May Hashem give the entire family the strength to overcome this tragedy.

How could G-d take away their happiness?!

A loss like this stands on its own. Young person, mother, wife, community leader, special soul… The world loses. Must mourn. But to connect dots from this to another tragedy is wrong on many counts: 1. minimizes this loss 2. minimizes whichever loss to which one chooses to draw a connecting line. 3. one should draw lines between dots of good/happy things to create patterns and leave the unhappy/tragic dots to stand on their own and be addressed individually. If you feel moved to make sense from a tragedy or use it as motivation for constructive things (aka the living… Read more »

I knew Rashi personally… This is so painful and upsetting. A few years ago I was visiting a friend over Pesach in Atlanta and she had both of us over every day during all of Pesach along with her extended family and members of the community. She opened her home completely to us and was so personable and extremely easy to talk to. She included us in her special time with her sisters and I remember clearly lounging out on her lawn, in the backyard just being so grateful to be in the home of such amazing warm shluchim. March 12, 2014 12:27 pm

I am absolutely devastated by this news. She was one of the favorite people I met in my (many, many) years as a camper and then a counselor at Silver Gan Israel Day Camp. I met Rashi during a time in my life when I was just beginning to grow in observance and she was there for me to tell me that it was okay that I didn’t have all the answers and that I should just continue to grow in my yiddishkeit at my own pace. I’ll never, ever forget her for that. May her memory truly be a… Read more »

It is so sad to see a mother taken suddenly from her children.
It happened to me 28 years ago, we have always felt our mother praying for us. B”h we all have chassidishe homes.

Four years ago I had the merit of being a counselor by Rashi and Hirshy’s succesful camp. Being that I was in 11th grade the rule was that we had to stay at the Shluchim’s house. We arrived late Thursday night and there were over 3 huge pans of cookies n rugelach waiting for us, I think the hc’s baked them but the idea was not 1 of their own. I personally do not like staying at people’s homes for an extended period of time, but this home was different, very very different. This home was warm, welcoming, relaxed, filled… Read more »

There isn’t any sense to be made of loss. There aren’t any words to capture the utter bewilderment we feel when tragedy arises. THIS cannot be the truth. As a close friend of Rashi through elementary, high school, seminary, and beyond, I can say that Rashi was truly larger than life. Rashi had a special spark and charm that endeared her to all. With her kindneess, warmth, and spunk, she was literally the life and energy of our class. Rashi was intelligent and wise beyond her years.
Rashi carried her responsibilities as mother and shlucha with a most positive attitude that was so inspiring.
The pain is deep. Very deep.

Chabad rabbonim must call people to gather in their communities and daven and plead to Hashem to send moshiach now. We must all do introspection and stop this now!

Pain
March 12, 2014 4:21 am

The pain is unbearable. I am one of the many lucky girls who was given the honor to be a counselor in CGI Alpharetta/ North Fulton. I can hear rashis voice, I can envision her smile. She is a true inspiration. She made us all feel at home. I truly have the best memories from my summer there. We literally lived and took over her house and she did it with a smile. I asked my dear Rashi if she could write me a reference letter for sem and she gladly did it with a smile. My heart goes out… Read more »

I spent the most amazing summer of my life in Alpharetta. Rashi was like a mother and friend to all of us. She took care of us, laughed with us, and cried with us. She was dedicated to her community and her kids and my heart breaks every time I remember that she isn’t with us anymore. We miss you Rashi. My deepest condolences to hirshy and the kids. Bde

I still remember picking up Rabbi Hirshy and Rashi from the airport in 1998 to take them to spend a Shabbat in the Beth Tefillah neighborhood and interview for the position of shluchim for Chabad of Alpharetta. Nine years after that, I had the privelige of moving into the Chabad of North Fulton neighborhood with my family in January 2007. Words cannot do credit to the degree of emptiness my family and I are feeling right now in response to this inexplicable tragedy. I pray that G-d gives strength to the enormous number of people, family and friends alike, whose… Read more »

There are so many things that I want to say, yet I have no words to describe any of them.
There is no comprehending why this has happened.

Rashi, you will be deeply missed and always in everyone’s hearts.

May the family find the strength to keep going and only know health and happiness.

This honestly is the most tragic news I have ever had to receive. I am truly honored and humbled to say that I am one of the lucky girls who had the privlidge to have been a counselor in their awesome camp, therefor knowing Rashi on a personal level. I am so deeply pained by this news for many reasons but mainly for her 8 precious beautiful neshamas. Through out my 6 weeks working there I can honestly say that from about the 40th second after I step foot into their warm loving house I felt at home. I can… Read more »
