Mrs. Rashi Minkowicz, a young mother and Chabad Shlucha in the United States, passed away suddenly on Tuesday night, the eve of 10 Adar II 5774.
She was 37 years old.
A mother of 8 children (the youngest 2 years old), she has been directing Chabad activities in Alpharetta, Georgia, alongside her husband Rabbi Hirshy Minkowicz since 1998.
She was born to Rabbi Chaim Meir and Sarah Lieberman of Crown Heights, Chabad chassidim who trace their roots back to the beginning of the Chabad movement in 18th-century Poland. She was one of 17 children.
Until 2008 they operated under the name “Chabad of Alpharetta.” With the incorporation of two new cities in the North Fulton area – Johns Creek and Milton, they changed the center’s name to Chabad of North Fulton.
With an array of activities and dedicated commitment to bringing the beauty of the Jewish heritage to the people, the Minkowiczs serve the ever growing Jewish communities of Alpharetta, Cumming, Johns Creek, Milton, Roswell, Forsyth and Duluth.
Rashi Minkowicz herself has taken an active leadership role in everything from the large summer Camp Gan Israel, to the capital building campaign, adult education classes, women’s programming, Mikvah, Hebrew School and youth programs.
Their next upcoming Chabad house event was scheduled to take place in just a few days, in honor of Purim.
Her last post on Facebook was on Monday 2:31 PM, when she reminded community members: “Torah & Tea tomorrow – The “Hamantash Edition.” Can wait to see you all.”
She is survived by her husband, Rabbi Hirshy Minkowicz and children, Menachem Mendel, Yoli, Henya, Tonia, Naftoli, Shaya, Dovid and Alter.
She is also survived by her parents, Chaim Meyer and Sara Lieberman and siblings; brothers: Rabbi Moshe Lieberman – Newton, MA, Rabbi Yossi Lieberman – West Hempstead, NY, Menachem Mendel Lieberman – Crown Heights, Levi Lieberman – Redondo Beach, CA, Shaya Lieberman – Crown Heights, Shmuly, Zalmy, Sholom and Nissi, and sisters: Bluma Marcus – Cypress, CA, Esty Majeski – Crown Heights, Henya Friedman – Crown Heights, Doba Raskin – Crown Heights, Mushka Shusterman – Los Angeles, CA, Tirtza and Chani.
The Levaya will take place in New York on Thursday morning, at Shomrei Hadas Chapels in Boro Park at 9:00 am and passing by 770 at 9:45 am.
Shiva will take place at the Liebermans home, 724 Eastern Parkway.

I too am a mother if daughters that were counselors and post seminary shluchos for Rashi and Hershy. They still would talk every day , Rashi still influences my daughters, in every way….Rashi was everyones example of how a Chassidiste should be.

I never met Rqshi, but she has a beautiful smile. When I saw this I cried and cried. So many people have left most wonderful comments. She obviously made huge impressions on all who met her. I’m so sad for the family. I really am. May Gd bring Moshiach to end this, it’s crazy.

Truly an earth shattering passing. Our family lived in the wonderful Alpharetta community for almost 9 years. I was up at 9 a.m. and was just doing the usual scrolling through my phone in the morning, then I went on Facebook and when I saw a friends post that’s when my heart dropped!, No, I never met rebbetzin minkowitz, never spoke to her, and yet I still TEARED up when I read the tragic news. Cannot fathom this tragedy. I was a grade younger in seminary with Rashi and can remember her positive energy and good humor. She was a person whom others gravitated towards and wanted to be around. This is absolutely shocking and heartbreaking news. While I did not see Rashi often, I found her to be one of the kindest and warmest people I have ever known. She made beautiful Shabbat meals and made her guests feel so welcome and special. I saw first hand what a wonderful and loving mother she was to her eight beautiful children whom she was so proud of. My family and I came to Alpharetta over 20 years ago from Long Island and it was our greatest honor to be part of the extended Minkowicz family. My friends and I are totally blown away. I knew Rashi personally… This is so painful and upsetting. A few years ago I was visiting a friend over Pesach in Atlanta and she had both of us over every day during all of Pesach along with her extended family and members of the community. She opened her home completely to us and was so personable and extremely easy to talk to. Four years ago I had the merit of being a counselor by Rashi and Hirshy’s succesful camp. Being that I was in 11th grade the rule was that we had to stay at the Shluchim’s house. We arrived late Thursday night and there were over 3 huge pans of cookies n rugelach waiting for us, I think the hc’s baked them but the idea was not 1 of their own. My daughters have been involved with Chabad’s summer camp since they were toddlers. Their b’not mitzvah is this weekend and we will honor Rashi during the morner’s kaddish. My daughter was a counselor in Alpharetta, and Rashi had such a good influence on her, accepting her and loving her and bringing out the very best in her. It was a powerful summer for her. To the entire extended family, and especially to Sara Lieberman, my very deepest sympathies.

We are so sad to hear of this terribly tragic news. The Hershey family are some of the most beautiful people we’ve ever met. When my father passed they were all there for us. They really comforted my family. I know how much the Rabbi loved her she was his/their rock. As a close friend of Rashi through elementary, high school, seminary, and beyond, I can say that Rashi was truly larger than life. Rashi had a special spark and charm that endeared her to all. With her kindneess, warmth, and spunk, she was literally the life and energy of our class. Rashi was intelligent and wise beyond her years.
Rashi carried her responsibilities as mother and shlucha with a most positive attitude that was so inspiring.
The pain is deep. Very deep.

We have learned so much from her and her peaceful, jewish ways. In Alpharetta, 12 years ago, in my late 30’s, my first Seder, ever, was served and hosted by Rashi and Hirshy. I had no where to go and felt very sad, yet in a new shul. Among other 20-30 people in her house, I was invited and introduced to my own heritage. Ever since, I participate and organize Seders for my family and friends. Thank you for the light you brought to me, ignited in me and all of us. There are no words to express the sorrow we feel.
Each of my daughters that worked for Rashi and Hirshy only had the best to say about them. From the way they ran the camp to the very special way they treated their counslers, our girls, with love, and respect . She taught and showed them and us how to treat your staff.
