Take this Ahmadinejad: The Jewish Community in the Iranian capital of Teheran is to receive esrogim for the holiday of Sukkos, COLlive has learned.
Rabbi Meir Bruk, Chabad Shliach and Chief Rabbi of Azerbaijan, got a call this morning (Sunday) from a prominent member of the Teheran Jewish community.
“Please send us esrogim for the holiday,” the man asked the rabbi of the neighboring county for Citrus Medica, one of the four species used on Sukkos. The others are the lulav (date palm frond), hadass (myrtle), and aravah (willow branch).
“We don’t have even one in all of Teheran,” the man explained.
Bruk, who keeps close contact with the Iranian Jewish community, was quick to respond. About 25,000 Jews live in Iran.
Two Lubavitch activist bochurim have come to help him from Israel and brought with them personal Esrogim. They added theirs to the one donated by a member of the Baku Jewish Community.
The three estogim were sent by Bruk later today with an emissary across the border.
“I have sent them in the past Kosher grape juice and sets of Chumash and Chitas,” Bruk told COLlive.
