With sadness we inform you of the passing of Esther Barbara Nowack, a longtime resident of Crown Heights, at the age of 62.
Barbara was known for her smiling demeanor, always greeting people on Kingston Avenue.
“She loved the social life of Kingston Avenue, being in the hub of the neighborhood,” a friend told COLlive. “She was known for always being mekabel people with a smile.”
Residents remember Nowack dressing up in a cheerful costume each Purim, greeting people near 770 Eastern Parkway.
She is survived by her son, Aryeh Leib Carter.
The levaya will take place tomorrow, Monday, passing by 770 at 10:00 am.

Esther, I will really miss you. You always looked so respectful and tznius whenever I saw you. You helped me pick flowers on Kingston Ave every Friday for Shabbos.
we’re really going to miss esther! she had a love for life and adventure. she cared about our community and was always thinking of ways to make it better. even though she didn’t have much, she paid for kids to go to yeshivah and was always giving. may her neshama go straight to gan eden and may we have moshich now!
