if the punishment should fit the crime he should be murdered and brought back to life for every time he even thought of doing something to her let alone for his actions.

The young girl is going to have to live with this for the rest of her life, but I still dont think he should of got life in prison, there are plenty of men in prison now doing what he did and they did not get as much time as he did, I never heard of a person getting life in prison for doing what he did, people that kill other people they dont get as much time as he did, by the time the parole board looks at his case he might not be around anymore

To all who say its excessive
January 28, 2013 12:52 pm

1) If a person commits 2 crimes, should they get a break and get the same as a person who committed one crime?
2) People believe that a person would repent and do teshuva. How are you so sure of this? Just because you’d learn your lesson, doesnt mean the monster would learn his lesson.

this is abuse not seduction, how would we be if we support a world filled with abusive men, and abusive relationships, lets look at what we are proposing for a Jewish family life. How are we proposing to raise a beautiful generation of Happy Loving People, if we are not recognizing abuse in or out of marriage.

Is 103 years excessive
January 27, 2013 5:29 pm

The number is ridiculous, what on Earth does that mean? Give him life with a chance of parole in 25 years. That’s what we usually do in Canada. A man his age in 25 years he would repent and learn his lesson if he makes it that long. and in 25 years parole board will decide if he should remain in jail or not.
No excuse for his crime.

January 25, 2013 8:36 am

That’s irrelevant. Each one of them is a crime and a violation of someone’s rights and body. Whether someone is abducted, beard shaved and thrown out of a moving vehicle onto the street, or someone is molested it’s a crime. No need to compare. The only comparison hear is to point out the violent tendencies of the offender which goes back many years to a well known story

the desert – i believe that the article deals with the days of the desert, not modern times. In the desert the victim wielded wide powers over her rapist. The perpetrator was watched with an eagle eye by everyone. To shorten the script, his life was made a living hell if he stepped out of line. Fast forward to the modern day, and the family can afford to help the victim and there are institutions to help, a victim is not seen as some leper etc. . No repeat offender. Problem arises when you don’t apprehend the rapist, or get… Read more »

You are so right. Imagine Dovid Hamelech and Avishag Hshunamies these days. Dovid Hamelech never even married the Girl, the girl just sat on his lap. These days I also support throwing a molestor into prison (-not for life-) because he is ruining the child for life, and he may go after others. But don’t blame Torah.. Gemara and Shulchan Aruch never mention “child molostation” as a prohibited adultry (unless it goes into other categories such as man with man etc.) Chumash requires the molster to marry the victim for life. Even a Shifcha Charufa (brought in Gemara) who gets… Read more »

See this website and explain. Stop the name-calling, and horrendous accusations based on speculation.

http://www.chabad.org/parshah/article_cdo/aid/1940448/jewish/Does-the-Torah-Punish-a-Rape-Victim.htm

Off hand, it does seem like the Torah is kind of “lenient” with this type of crime, if interpreted literally. So, let’s hear how the Beis Din would actually deal with this, and what the other sources of Jewish law have to say. I do find it hard to believe that the literal interpretation would allow us to just give the rapist no more than just a slap on the hand.

What does the TORAH say?
January 24, 2013 3:34 pm

Terrible! He raped an unmarried minor, so we jump on the bandwagon and say “let him rot!” Maybe he deserves it, according to the law of the land. But, correct me if I’m missing something. Doesn’t the Torah require the rapist to just pay a fine and even marry her? So, when the law of the land and the Torah contradict, which one do we go by? Case in point. Let’s say we live in an Arab country, where the penalty for theft is be-handing. Are we going to insist that our brother thief lose his hand or go according… Read more »

As a mother, if what this person did is true he should pay the price. But for all those, so rithteously condemning the man,REMEMBER, HASHEM SAYS, WHEN YOU DECREE ON ANOTHER PERSON, YOU ARE IN EFFECT DECREEING ON YOURSELF. So in all your holy righteousness, DO YOURSELVES A FAVOR, and instead of gloating and condemning HAVE RACHMONOS ON HIS SICK MIND AND SOUL! Recalling many instances when the Rebbe spoke out in such a manner and tone throughout the years it NEVER FAILED the one referred to was affected physically, mentally or caught up in terrible situations! even though the Rebbe would always say it should be “bechesed Uverachamim”, (can’t imagine what would have been if the Rebbe wouldn’t have concluded with this clause!). Regarding the suggestion that this individual was involved in cutting off R’ Pinye’s beard, I just remembered the following:

In the sicha that the Rebbe spoke after that incident (printed in the hosafos of likutei sichos chelek 23), the Rebbe mentioned – seemingly parenthetically – that these so-called kanoim were guilty of “chilel briso”, something that seemed hard to understand at the time, but seems prophetic now.

We need to be open about this and spread awareness of this type of abuse as a preventative measure so we stop these horrible horrible things from happening! Don’t worry. No one thinks you are perfect. Making an ‘example’ of Jews by giving them way more ‘justice’ than anyone else who committed the same major crime is a disturbing trend these days and does not indicate a change for the better. It is a sneaky form of anti-semitism that has nothing to do with a judge or jury’s support of a victim. Essentially he was a tzfati with langeh payos. Would you say a tzfati deserves life? Of course not! For his sin regarding Korf he needs teshuvah and perhaps a beating. No more. To all those who are saying that the sentence is excessive, remember the Torah’s story with Dinah. When they dared defile Dinah, her brothers knew how to respond. Would some say they responded excessively? Yes. But they knew otherwise, and that’s the example we have. HA’KEZONAH YAASEH ES ACHOSEINU! I think murderers and molesters deserve the exact same sentence! Every murderer should get life imprisonment and every molester should get life imprisonment. If te justice system for some reason only gives a 30 year sentence to one of them well then THAT is the problem. He should have gotten life! Who are all you people to judge and say this is excessive punishment anyway?!

Pedophilia can't be cured

They can only be kept away from children and the temptation. The recidivism rate among these offenders is very high. He used power against the innocent, he damaged her life, he took thousands of dollars from her parents, he made a chillul hashem. And yes, a picture is needed. He doesn’t get the luxury of privacy. Of course his family is mortified.

Think about it for one minute if it was YOUR Daughter who suffered under his attack? A lifetime will not be enough for her to recover. Think about how much therapy, how much help she will need to overcome not only the actual incidents but the fact that this was a person her school and her parents and her community trusted. Imagine how it’s going to affect her marriage, her children? For one second, think of what it was on her life. You think her testimony was not enough? No one condones pedophiles. We are against sending a man to jail for a crime he may not have done. That is a big difference.

While I disagree with the people who claim that he is innocent, I am so much more disgusted at the people who think that even if he may be guilty that his sentence is excessive. This man *should* spend the rest of his life rotting away in jail for destroying this girl’s life, plus the lives of all the other victims who never came forward because they were scared and ashamed. This is a man that admitted to buying lingerie with the money donated to his charity. He took this girl on a 10 hour trip in the car, alone… Read more »

2) What is this Korf incident?

The justice is scapegoating this rabbi. He surely did not kill the girl. She is affected with emotional scars for many years, but with counselling and friendships, she will and can overcome to become a normal loving wife / mother. The guy should have gotten 25 years or less. Life we give to murderers, blood cold rapists… A Yid is capable of doing tshuva even when he gets out at 80 yrs old…Ditto for Bernie Madoff. Not Ditto for Pollard and Rubashkin, who don’t even deserve 10 years. It’s upside down the whole stinking system.

He consistently molested young girls, over & over. Pre meditated. He picked & groomed vulnerable girls who did not come from the ‘top families,’ and told them they would never be believed. Read what Rabbi Yaakov Horowitz says about other victims who have come to him but are too terrified to testify. BH this brave girl had the guts to come forward and go through the torture of reliving the abuse, so others should be spared a similar fate. She needs all the support we can give her. Justice Used as a weapon against Jews
January 22, 2013 3:24 pm

Let’s be real, at least with ourselves. Notwithstanding the need to punish crimes adequately, there is a very disturbing trend here to use much harsher sentences against religious Jews than any other single group in the United States. We’ve seen this increasingly in the past few years in many well known cases. This is JUST as distorted as the crimes themselves. If this is allowed to continue it can only result in Jews eventually being convicted of crimes they did not commit r”l.. and so on.
Comments like #46 betray a naive perception of justice in America today.

January 22, 2013 3:23 pm

Back in 1984 a group of Satmar yungermen in Williamsburg were furious that, at invitation, Rabbi Pinchas Korf was secretly teaching Tanya to Satmar men. Weberman was part of a group that accosted Rabbi Korf & to punish him, cut off his beard. The perpetrators had no idea what would befall them…#37 has his facts right about what happened to the group who did it. Obviously, Weberman was a sick individual, as is anyone who resorts to physical violence. January 22, 2013 3:04 pm

If in fact guilty (only Hashem knows for sure, humans must try to investigate) he deserves harsh punishment & deterrent for others…however NOT 103 years!!!! That’s probably more befitting of murderer to say the least. Thankfully the girl who has suffered terribly at least in this case is now happily married and though forever marred has done the best she could to rebuild her life. I’d say even 20 years a lot for this crime & I can speak.

Mixed Feelings
January 22, 2013 3:01 pm

On one hand, I hear those who think that 103 yrs is a bit excessive, and I know next to nothing about the legal justice system and don’t have an opinion. On the other, I think that there is room to make an example of someone, especially in this crime where the perpetrators are relying on the fact that they will not be prosecuted.

The fact that Sandusky got 30 years is a disgrace to the “Justice” system. We should be outraged that he did not get more time, not that Weberanimalnotman got what he got. Nasty story. If he’s guilty he deserves every day of the sentence and so does every pervert who preys on his (or her!!) victims. Maybe this will get sickos to seek help to control their urges, but I fear not. They never think they’ll get caught.

Sociopath
January 22, 2013 2:00 pm

There is a difference between non-premeditated murder & systematic abuse as was the case with Weberman. I think it is entirely possible for some murderers to be rehabilitated, but for a man like Weberman, it’s highly unlikely rehabilitation would work, especially if he’s a sociopath. In any event, he won’t last a fraction of the time he’s been sentenced in jail (child molesters are particularly unloved in prison). Hopefully, his sentencing & demise will deter other molesters in the Jewish community.

Curious
January 22, 2013 1:49 pm

What does halacha say about these cases?

facts
January 22, 2013 1:44 pm

he got all the years because he had a massive count number, 52 i believe…..not because he was jewish, this is how sentencing works ACCORDING TO THE LAW! each count carries a certain number of years as punishment, DUH!

although the press did have a field day with this, no denying that but they should have! the days of taking these cases and throwing them under the rug ruins innocent jewish lives and leaves even more scars when a victim sees his or her family not give a hoot.

why
January 22, 2013 1:42 pm

is it neccessary it put a picture of him?

If he is really guilty ,were this my daughter I would be furious…I would want to tear him into pieces…If not stopped I probably might.
However, it’s ‘Hashgacha Pratis’ for whatever reason. Also, after I calmed down (About 10 years later…joke)
There is much written about imprisonment, which has no place in ‘Torah’ and is a cruel system.
Some say ‘Satmar’ is so restricted that it creates this type of behavior…forget not that there are ‘Lubavitchers’ who seem guilty of this.
The ‘yetzer hara’ doesn’t wear a ‘Streimel.’

January 22, 2013 1:24 pm

I Heard that he came to Reb Pinya to ask for Mechilla, and Reb Pinya replied to him, that he should ask by the Rebbe.

Justice was served
January 22, 2013 1:22 pm

It makes sense that he was involved in the beard incident – he comes from a Malochim family and it was the Malochim-turned-Satmar who were the ringleaders of the torment against Chabad at the time. (Had Reb Yoilish been physically well and in real control, these hooligans would have been in cherem and then some – they were fringe elements to begin with.)

Regardless of Weberman’s past, 103 years is just fine for his present offenses.

Before I get to my main point, he was the one who shaved off Rabbi Korf’s beard?

I am disheartened by the state of justice in this country. If the alleged acts occurred, that’s horrible and justice should be served, but 103 years is beyond excessive. I can’t recall a murder who ever had such a long sentence.

To the young lady involved…we each wish you and this jerk’s other victims a full complete and speedy recovery from these horrible incidents. (Sorry, I don’t know what word to use.) You’ve shown that you have the strength, remember that when things get rough.

January 22, 2013 12:57 pm

Even if 103 years is too much for this one case. He is now going to pay for what he didn’t get for attempted murder on Reb Pinyah Korf, and what a hasgocha protis that it came on yud alef shvat. The message is clear the Rebbe takes care of his chassidim.
