CGI Toronto is expanding, adding an additional spacious double bunkhouse cabin as well as a new staff housing complex, due to do an increase in enrollment.
“After an unbelievable success in its inaugural year, at CGI Toronto boy’s session in August we are looking forward to another great summer,” said Rabbi Itchy Grossbaum, camp director.
“E pluribus unum – Out of many, one.” This is the feeling that so many boys felt as camp ended last summer.
It is not by coincidence that this was the feeling after experiencing a summer in Gan Yisroel Toronto. When Rabbi Zalman Grossbaum set out 5 years ago to build the overnight camp, this is exactly what he had in mind. It began with the purchase of 200 acres site and with pristine lakefront property in Haliburton, Ontario, a two and some hour drive from the city. With the support of generous donors, in particular Sidney and Naomi Spiegel, it now has a spacious, brand new shul, dining hall, kitchen, bunk houses, and sports facilities.
The program is designed to give the camper the ultimate experience and leave camp with renewed enthusiasm and new found friendships. With sports, creative activities, exciting trips, and exciting learning classes the campers experienced fun filled and meaningful days. Each camper was to succeed and excel in his own unique way.
“Thank you for giving my son a new chayus to carry him through in his shlichus.” Expressed one parent when his child returned home. This was exactly what we were hoping for when we decided to send him. Thank you for providing this positive growth experience begashmius uberuchnius.” “I was in camp for four years, but this was absolutely amazing,” reminisced one camper. “I never had so much fun in my life. I can’t wait for next summer.”
Planning for the second summer is well underway, with many exciting surprises. In addition, a special program for Bar Mitzva boys (7th grade) is being opened, catering specially to their age group with more advanced learning and exclusive trips.
The dates for the boys session are July 24 (17 Av) – August 20 (14 Elul). (The girl’s session is June 26 (18 Tammuz) – July 22 (15 Av).) Registration is now open, and limited scholarships are available. Applications can be submitted at ganisraeltoronto.com.
This coming summer promises to be even more exciting, an experience which will last a lifetime.

CGI Toronto was actually founded in 5751 with the brocho of the Rebbe. It was then run by the younger Rabbi Yossi Gansburg for three years on rented ground. It took years to find a property to call their own.
Rabbi Itchy Grossbaum is an alumni of CGI Toronto from its original days.
