Rebbe's Opinion on Montessori

Veteran educator Rivkah Sharfstein on what the Rebbe told her about Jewish schools using the Montessori learning method.

Mrs. Rivkah Sharfstein, an educator for more than 50 years, had a number of private audiences and received a number of personal letters from the Rebbe relating to her teaching.

She inquired about the Rebbe's opinion of using the Montessori method for teaching kriyah and merited to receive unique professional guidance.

This lecture was given at last summer's Chinuch conferences of the Merkos Chinuch Office, directed by Rabbi Nochum Kaplan.

I watched and didn't see anything what the Rebbe said about the method? are we missing something from the video?

Rebbe'sopinion?

I watched the whole video expecting to hear the Rebbe's opinion about taking a Montesori course and using the method and didn't hear the Rebbe's opinion only indirectly in telling Mrs.Sharfstein not to take the course.

Our Zchus

Lamplighters Yeshivah has had the z'chus of having Reb Sharfstein act as one of our school's mashpiyim and has presented for our teachers and parents a number of times. Under her direction and inspiration, particularly the horayos she received from the Rebbe regarding training, we created out own teacher training program as opposed to sending our teachers to Montessori training. To all who say you can't teach the alef beis have sounds

Listen to the last two minutes and perhaps you may change your opinion!
A clear answer from the Rebbe that it's ok to teach the sounds of the letters.
Unlike some who were claiming otherwise the beginning of this year.
