The chassidic library and publishing house Heichal Menachem in Boro Park held another large farbrengen to celebrate the Rosh Hashana of Chassidus.
A crowd of 1,500 people filled two event halls this past Motzoei Shabbos for the annual Yud Tes Kislev Melave Malka with rabbonim and Roshei Yeshiva in attendance.
“This is the 200th year since the passing of the Alter Rebbe and although it is to remember an event that happened many years ago, it has not waned,” said the center’s director Rabbi Leibel Altein.
“Since it is connected to chassidus, which is the inner Torah, it is a G-dly thing and by extension an everlasting thing and one that is intensified from year to year,” he said.
The validity of his statement was evident at the farbrengen where hundreds of USB memory keys filled with audio recordings of chassidish shiurim in Yiddish were sold during the evening.
The MP3 files included close to 1500 classes given at Heichel Menachem over the years by some of the greatest chassidic scholars today, among them Rabbi Yoel Kahn, Rabbi Yisroel Friedman, Rabbi Altein and the late Rabbi Yosef Wineberg.
A video tribute to Rabbi Wineberg, author of Shiurim B’sefer Hatanya, who taught hundreds of thousands over the years, was shown.
Also available at the event was a new sefer in the acclaimed series of Chassidus Mevueres, this one discussing simches such as bris, bar mitzvah and weddings in the light of chassidus.
The need and must to learn chassidus was emphasized by the guest speaker, Rabbi Ezra Schochet, Rosh Yeshivas Ohr Elchanan Chabad in Los Angeles, CA.
In a passionate speech, he explained how learning chassidus beings G-dliness to every part of a Jewish person’s life and defuses confusion and tests of the evil inclination.
The emcee was Rabbi Zev Katz and another speaker was Rabbi Moshe Wolfson, Mashgiach Ruchani of Mesivta Torah Vodaath and Rav of Beis Medrash Emunas Yisrael in Brooklyn.
Niggunim were sung by Rabbi Mendel Raices and 4 Rabin brothers, accompanied by the Yossi Cohen Orchestra.
