For the 11th consecutive year, members of Los Angeles’ Kol Yakov Yehuda The Rebbe’s diamond daveners – The Shul for the kids, by the kids-will have a chance to pick three of their own who will lead their junior congregation for the upcoming year.
The evening will begin with three video presentations of each of the three parties, followed by a grand debate where various questions will be addressed to the candidates for them to share with their constituents their views and values and how they plan to run the kids Shul during their term in office.
The moderator for this debate will be Efraim Schmuckler the Shliach of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Following the debate, the voting will be opened for all to choose their candidates. Over 120 boys and close to 80 girls are expected to turn out during this election evening.
The three parties running are: YLS party candidates: Yossi Raeburn, Shmulie Wolowik and Levi Bart, MYY party candidates: Yossi Laskar, Mendel Ravnoy and Yosef Greenbaum, and the LLL party candidates: Mendel Lerman, Levi Weiss and Efraim Levenberg.
All the candidates attend Cheder Menachem of Los Angeles in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades and have been attending KYY for at least five years or longer.
The candidates have each put out statements, describing why they would be best to run the Junior Congregation, founded 11 years ago by Rabbi Mendel Duchman.
“We have the leadership skills and knowledge to create the programming, activities, games and prizes that you want,” says the LLL Party. “On Saturday night, when you vote for us please realize that you aren’t just voting for us – you are voting for yourself and for a great year in KYY.”
“We pledge to “raise the bar” of all activities at KYY,” promises the YLS party, who say their “5 point plan” is “better than Mitt Romney’s.”
“Please vote for us,” asks the MYY party, promising “fun things, prizes, excitement for all that excel to daven with Derech Eretz.”
Once the children have cast their vote and place the ballots in a fireproof locked box, they will be delivered to Shmuel Stroll, a California Certified Accountant, who will be in charge of counting the ballots and making the announcement of the winning party.
Following the elections a Melava Malkah will be served to the entire junior congregation and will be held at Congregation Levi Yitzchock, 356 North La Brea, in Hancock Park.
The evening will then end with a grand raffle choosing one Davener who will win The Grand Prize KYY #10.
Kol Yakov Yehuda-The Rebbe’s Diamond Daveners was founded 11 years ago to give Lubavitcher children a Shul of their own where they not only could Daven like Mentshen but could also help them develop their leadership skills as future Shluchim, Rabbis, Chazonim, and respected members of Anash.
