Guests of a bris milah ceremony that took place this past week in the Israeli village of Kfar Chabad got to witness a family come full circle.
At the meal following the bris for his grandson, Shliach Rabbi Yosef Chitrik took out an old envelope and presented it to family and friends.
In it was a crunched 5 dollar bill.
“The Rebbe gave this envelope to my father on Rosh Chodesh Kislev 5712,” Chitrik, Director of the Beis Chana girls seminary in Tzfas, said with tears in his eyes.
“It was when the Rebbe was the sandak at my bris which took place in a small hall on Empire Blvd. in Crown Heights,” he said about the honor, which only 2 others are known of to have merited.
“The Rebbe then explained in a sicha that during a bris the Frierdiker Rebbe would give a deposit for tuition for Tomchei Tmimim.”
Rabbi Chitrik told COLlive that up until a few years ago his father, the talmid chacham and businessman R’ Hirshel Chitrik OBM, had never told him about the envelope.
“He gave it to me as a present a few years ago and I never opened it. This morning, I had a strong urge to bring it with me,” he said.
The newborn, if you wondered, was named Tzvi Hirsh.
What a beautiful baby!
Mazal Tov to the Balei Simcha!
If the Rebbe was Sandek a few times can someone clarify from someone who was there and remembers, Was there 1 chair or 2 ?
Mazal tov to Shmulik and Bassie and grandparents.
He should grow to be a chay”al, and I’m sure will bring much honor to his namesake.
I just wanted to mention that I was lucky to be a student of Rabbi Chitrick 12 years ago at Bais Chana. Till this day I have extreme positive memories and emotions with my year spent there. I learned so much from Rabbi Chitrick and his wife. May you continue to have many years of health and simcha together.
Warmly,
Henny Chanina
