Donor Offers Matching $5000
Rabbi Motty Lipskier says The Beis Medrash in Crown Heights is contemplating ending its lease at the Crown Condos. UPDATE: Businessman Yerachmeal Jacobson pledged to match donations up to $5,000.
Dear Friend,
21 months ago my wife and I opened The Beis Medrash, a Torah learning center in Crown Heights offering men and bochurim a bright and comfortable place to learn, farbreng and gain a feeling of camaraderie. Encouraged by the success of TBM for men, my wife Chanel and Mrs. Dvora Lakein launched The Women’s Circle which was met with enthusiasm by the women of Crown Heights- a clear indication that it is filling a real need. We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve our community. Of course we owe it all to the generosity of so many who make it possible.
Last week, we circulated an email in which we shared an “open book” of our accomplishments and expenses over the past 21 months as well as our urgent and future goals and the funds required to support them. View here. http://www.thebeismedrash.com/blog/ We also clarified our desire to keep TBM’s doors open at 580 Crown (as opposed to relocating); and that we’d need financial commitments in order to accomplish this.
Our email was met with enthusiasm and tremendous generosity by many dedicated TBM regulars as well as the community at large. But we are still in need of $759 in monthly commitments for fixed expenses (see breakdown for details). We have only a few days until we have to decide whether we can sign a two- year lease for the space at 580 Crown, or not. Let’s make this happen!
I am asking for your help:
Would you consider a monthly contribution to support this worthy cause? I assure you that your contribution will bring you nachas- you need not look far! Simply step into TBM any weeknight and feel the energy as a room full of men of all ages sit and learn Torah.
Yesterday’s Hayom Yom could not be more applicable:
"אלע אידישע עלטערן וועלכע באדארפען האבען א ספעציעלע ישועה און הצלה פאר זייערע קינדער, איז דער זיכערסטער מיטעל צו שטיצען תורה לערנער" --היום יום ט' תמוז
The greatest guaranteed assurance (of Divine assistance) for all Jewish parents in need of special help and deliverance for their children is through their support of those who study Torah.

UPDATE (Monday, 3:37 PM):
Since posting this above letter last night on COLlive.com about The Beis Medrash (TBM) in Crown Heights and its financial situation, there has been immediate progress.
Rabbi Lipskier just got a call from Yerachmeal Jacobson, a real estate executive and owner of Bluejay Management LLC. "We saw the article on COLlive," Jacobson opened the conversation.
"The Beis Medrash is a tremendous asset to our community and we'd like to make a dent in the fundraising goal, especially considering that it is Yud Beis Tammuz- an opportune time to strengthen Torah study," the Crown Heights resident said.
Jacobson and his wife Rivka Leah are offering to match donations received in the next 24 hours up to $5,000. With the monthly deficit at $9,481, Jacobsons' goal of raising $10,000 will cover a complete month at the Beis Medrash.
"I am very grateful to the Jacobsons for this show of support - on behalf of all the people who are throwing themselves into this project with passion and enthusiasm to make The Beis Medrash survive and thrive," said Rabbi Lipskier.
In order to meet Jacobsons' offer, the Beis Medrash needs to raise $4,098 by Tuesday afternoon ($902 was donated since last night). Every donation counts, no matter how small, Lipskier says.

no guest maggid shiurim unless they are sponsored, and so on, this way at least we will have something instead of nothing
Best of luck, Lipskiers!
Hatzlacha
rent price is under market value for this size/ location
I just commited to start giving $36 per month. Keep up the good work Rabbi Motti!
but he should look for ways to trim down the costs if he is asking for public funds
not to Rabbi Motty Lipskier, but to ourselves
#To #18 & 11, they are looking at different options & thinking outside the box. I know, I've been talking to the Rabbi about various possibilities. But still, this is a community organization & while I agree there are many worthy causes that need our support, the first people to give should be those who directly benefit. The truth is, everyone benefits when we have places for children to see their fathers learning and being active in the right things. This is a positive environment for the entire family. If you knew the non-public kiruv (for want of a better word) that the Lipskiers are engaged in, you would want this dynamic young couple to continue their Shlichus. Because this is exactly what it is.
may g-d bless u and your family with only good
I for one and happy to put in a call, sign my name on a petition or wahtever to make this clear.
He should cut the costs of rent for the beis hamedrash because that is what we all want! It's the greatest thing for the condos.
It is my understanding that very few owners at 580 (with a couple of notable exceptions), donate to the Beis Medrosh.
He does many acts of Chesed with no request for the spotlight
May he be blessed with much hatzlacha
To #20 the schools have to put in more effort to show that they are doing or giving to the children what they really need, not just be baby sitters for the parents, as I had with my son, he was a very good student but the school did not motivate him because he was learning regardless, so he has knowledge but that’s it he could have been an illue. but B'H HE IS FRUM. So when the schools get their act together then they will earn the money.
