Community Gets First Look
Lubavitchers in S. Paulo got a first look at documents that will be published in a new book by JEM and a Budapest Shliach. By COLlive Staff
On Wednesday, June 13th, members of the Chabad community in S. Paulo, Brazil, were treated to a special evening about Chabad history.
Taking advantage of a visit from Rabbi Elkanah Shmotkin, Director of JEM (Jewish Educational Media), a special presentation took place in Beit Chabad Central, exhibiting historic documents pertinent to the early years of the Rebbe's life.
Many of the documents had only been discovered in the recent past, and are yet to be publicized, in a book co-authored by Rabbi Shmotkin along with Rabbi Boruch Oberlander, Shliach in Budapest, Hungary, which is due to be published in the near future.
Official documents, personal diary pages, correspondence with the Frierdiker Rebbe, Reb Levik - the Rebbe's father, and many Torah giants of the time, are but few of the precious material that was shown, over the course of the event.
Shluchim as well as lay leaders attended the event, filling the hall to capacity, as a live explanation, both in Hebrew and English, accompanied each exhibit, as it appeared on the screen.
Shmotkin was accompanying the team that produces the 'My Encounter' interview series collecting precious testimonies and stories with the Rebbe from several residents of the city.
