Brooklyn’s 71st Precinct Commanding Officer Peter Simonetti has been transferred to another location in Brooklyn, and will be departing this week.
Captain John J. Lewis, who is currently assigned to the 76 Precinct in Brooklyn South, will take on the job as Commanding Officer of the Precinct, which is located in Crown Heights, beginning on April 12.
In the four years that he has served as the commanding officer in the 71 Precinct, Inspector Simonetti has been praised by NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly and community leaders in Crown Heights for his hands-on approach in patrolling the streets and cutting crime in the neighborhood.
Local organizations said Simonetti was very accommodating in organizing and maintaining safety at large scale community events such as the Great Parade on Lag B’Omer and the Simchas Beis Hashoeiva annual celebration. He was regularly seen participating in local events, and has shown sensitivity in keeping peace in the neighborhood, which in the past has been plagued by racial tensions.
Each Tishrei, when thousands of guests arrive in Crown Heights from around the world to celebrate the High Holidays, Inspector Simonetti was instrumental in maintaining a heavy security presence at 770 – Lubavitch World Headquarters and throughout the neighborhood.
Captain Lewis will be meeting with Crown Heights community officials in the near future.
He was one of the best and looked out for the community. He took action against those illegally parked big trailers. Mr. Simonetti is the best and I miss him.

‘The Aggregate Burden of Crime’ The cost of crime in America. WASTED MONEY (most of it)
Crime is low?
I know of two recent crimes against Jews that went unreported because of fear of reprisal. Victim intimidation is a common occurrence in The USA.
The recidivism rate in NY City is 60% 6 out of 10 criminals return to crime.
Civilization NOW! ‘The 7 Noahide Laws.’

Cost of crime per year in USA $1.7 trillion dollars!
The whole criminal justice system should ‘depart.’
Google in : ‘The Price of Crime in America.’
$1.7 trillion dollars ($5,000 per person in USA)…most of it wasted…’The 7 Noahide Laws’..which is ‘Public Law 102-14..Senior Bush Administration.
Cops shooting criminals in our street…putting people in danger needlessly…it’s all about $$ not safety.
Google in: ‘THE AGGREGATE BURDEN OF CRIME’ by Professor ANDERSON of Harvard Univ. plenty to read.
Who u kidding. Only ur self. Just look at his track record. Every one not in politics knows the truth. Its not rite to bring politics onto a people site. Has not a nice man. Any1 who had to deal with him from the street (not a political person) had no help. Ask all that needed him. But most probably u are in the line to make nice and cover it all up. Its not rite. Cuz then they know that all they need to do is be nice to a few and the rest forget about. We Jews are… Read more »
Ye simonetti – sorry to see you go – good luck.
disregard the naysayers – ya no one is perfect – we know you had some issues with some of us – its ok – u done good overall you were a stand up guy.
Thanks from MANY of us and I say many.
Looks as though the official comment writers from that other ch website are active here now. Notice how they always post their negative articles with the first few comments already written? Inspector- dont pay attention. Crown heights loves you and wishes you well as you climb the career ladder. five former commanders of 71 are chief and higher. You are next!
everyone knows for the past few years we have had so much problems with 71st. U don’t have to be that smart to know that the chief wad behind making sure no reports where issued so he can look good as if its all good. Lets hope the up and coming chief will look for us and not him self
Lets hope the new guy will not be looking out for his own good and file a police report when necessary.
Inspector Simonetti, your a good officer and you did your job to the best of your ability (that anybody human can do under the worst conditions possible) I hope you keep on going up in rank and G-D should bless you with all that you need.
Levi
sometimes politics just make us soooooo sick. He is know to be the worst we had. Only resin some crazy politicians try to simile with him was maybe he will try n be nicer. But a person is a person. He dose not change. So this is very good news for c.h. hay out there all u. U don’t need him no more say the truth how many times he won’t allow police reports to be filled out. I can go on n on. But if u really care about it community this is a good step for our safety
I know nothing about police or the crime stats but I know that he’s helped and bent backwards for our community.
I want him to stay
NOOOOOOO. Simonetti was the best C.O. Crown Heights ever had. He will terribly be missed. It will never be the same without him.
Inspector thank you sooooo much for everything. Really. You were great.
And to all those who wrote negative comments go back to where you came from cuz before this CO CH was going down the drain, simonetti saved the day!
blah blah blah, rhetoric rhetoric and more rhetoric.
Four years of useless photo-ops and meetings with our fearless “leaders”, covering up crime and artificially keeping stats down….
You will not be missed, Simonetti.
I can’t believe the words I’m reading in this crazy article, did you say that crime was very low, I was the victim of a beating only 6 weeks ago, while walking down eastern partway, and the precint could care less. The week Sminety was placed here he had a Bochur handcuffed to a hospital bed ” after he was beaten by a youth” I personally heard Sminety justifying it, saying, that untill he found out the real story that’s standard procedure!!! You said he’s helpfull during Tishray, LOL is that the reason he had a basemet full of Bochrim… Read more »
