Maaser, the concept of donating 10% to charity, is mostly applied nowadays as an “income maaser” given from all gross income and monetary gifts which a person earns or receives.
There are certain deductions and credits – such us tuition costs – which now includes a JEM subscription.
Chabad rabbis in Israel recently released a letter stating that videos of the Rebbe are so important as an educational and learning tool that maaser money can be used to buy them.
Rabbi Yitzchok Yehuda Yeruslavsky, Rabbi Mordechai Shmuel Ashkenazi, Rabbi Yochanan Gourarie and others affirmed the great importance in setting times to watch the the holy countenance of the Rebbe and the strengthening of the chassidishe atmosphere in the home, which would be obtained through seeing the face of the Rebbe.
The Brooklyn-based JEM (Jewish Educational Media) has received the rabbis’ letter in connecting with their massive 3-day sale in honor of Yud Shvat, the day the Rebbe accepted leadership of Chabad-Lubavitch.
Until Friday, February 3, all their videos will be discounted steeply – between 40 and 50% off.
“Complete your collection of videos of the Rebbe and fulfill the Mivtzah of bayis malei seforim,” JEM has said. “(It’s) a great addition to your home for you, your family – and especially your children.”
Come by the JEM office at 784 Eastern parkway, 4th floor, Mon – Thursday 9:30 – 6:00 and Friday till 1:00 or online at JEMstore.com
