The article “Heeding the Call for Holocaust Education,” by Rishe Deitsch, in the Tishrei issue of the N’shei Chabad Newsletter left all of us asking how can we learn more, do more, share more, as the number of survivors and eye-witnesses continues to dwindle. How can we harness the Kiddush Hashem and spiritual courage of that time and transmit them to future generations?
An Evening to Remember, organized by Bnos Chomesh High School, is the answer to these questions.
The event, to be held this Sunday, 27 Teves/January 22, features Mrs. Ruth Lichtenstein, founder and director of Project Witness, who will speak about the faith and courage of Jewish women in the Holocaust.
In her own inimitable fashion, Mrs. Lichtenstein will offer new information about the role of women at that time in history, and will offer new information that you have not heard before – information that will move you and uplift you. She will share stories that will hold you spellbound. This is a not-to-be-missed event.
Mrs. Lichtenstein is a great-granddaughter of the Gerrer Rebbe, Harav Avraham Mordechai Alter, known as the Imrei Emes, and the granddaughter of Rabbi Itche Meir Levin, the leader of Agudath Israel in prewar Europe and later in Eretz Yisrael. She is the daughter of Rabbi Yehudah Aryeh Leib Levin, founding editor of the Hebrew-language Hamodia.
Born in Jerusalem and currently living in New York, Mrs. Lichtenstein published Witness to History, an extraordinarily impressive textbook that is part of her larger undertaking called Project Witness, a comprehensive nonprofit Holocaust resource center that offers academically grounded and religiously sensitive Holocaust educational resources for Jewish schools worldwide.
An Evening to Remember will be an uplifting, inspiring program for women. (seminary and high school girls are also invited). Scheduled for the eve of Rebbetzin Chana’s birthday, it will be chaired by Mrs. Dina Rosenfeld who will speak about Rebbetzin Chana’s legacy.
The program also includes a video presentation telling the moving story of a woman from Shavli, Lithuania, who, though under threat of imminent death, refused to terminate her pregnancy. The video recounts her unforgettable story.
An Evening to Remember will take place in Oholei Menachem at 7:30 p.m. this Sunday, 27 Teves/January 22.Admission is $15 for women, $10 for seminary and high school girls. Please come early and get a good seat!
Good, special, admirable. She should be thanked for all she does for Am Israel. Thank you Ruth Lichtenstein.
(262) SCHOOL-1
she is really devoted to Bnos Chomesh! a great school i’d like to know more about
and behind every successful organization and program stands a successful women who does not know how to take any credit. Thank You Mrs. Nechama Chanin for all the wonderful work you do for our school. We Love You!
that would be a good question to pose at the event. but not in a confrontational and disrespectful way. please, do it.
was FASCINATING! can’t wait to hear her speak live!
Thanks to Bnos Chomesh for arranging this event for the whole community.
Mrs. Lichtenstein’s Project Witness publications include accounts of the major rescue stories of gedolim, such as the Gerrer Rebbe and the Belzer Rov, etc. Not a word is mentioned about the dramatic and miraculous rescue of the Frierdiker Rebbe. Why? Nothing is mentioned about the Frierdiker Rebbe’s hatzalah efforts during the war. Why?
I will be there.
This will be a memorable evening! Mrs Lichtenstein a child of survivors has been quoted to say: She learned about the holocaust from her mother who spoke of her experience and from her father’s silence who did not speak.
May the zechus of all the holy Kedoishim and remembering them
bring Moshiach Now!!!
i don’t live in NY but this seems like it will be really interesting. i really enjoyed the write-up in the n’shei chabad newsletter.

This is so important! Thank you.
After reading the powerful piece in the Neshei, I had wanted to hear more. At least, my wife will go and tell me what she heard. This is CRUCIAL to our community.
So happy to see that events like this are happening. Yasher Koach to the speakers and the organizers.
kol hakavod
thank you!
My guess is the overwhelming majority of our girls have never met anyone who is a Holocaust survivor. Their general knowledge of the Holocaust is minimal and their awareness of the personal stories of mesiras nefesh of those who went through it is even less. I think think all the girls high schools should make this event mandatory for their students. It is a very fitting way to honor the birthday of Rebbetzin Chana’s a woman who herself was moiser nefesh time and time again. Yasher Koach to the organizers.
Mrs. Lichtenstein is my hero, that’s for sure
while it’s not about her at all, but about the kedoshim, and about Hashem, and about us, still when you hear it from HER the message comes across with strength and purity
This is a first in Crown Heights. Heard so much about Mrs. L- will iy”h come to hear her in person. Looking forward, thank you.
Thank you Bnos Chomesh for organizing such an important event.
We need more women in our community who think like Mrs. Deitsch! Thank you I look forward to this evening!
I will most definitely be attending with my daughters. This is a very important and often neglected subject.
a most important event. all those who are able to attend should really make the effort it will be well worth it.
may we witness the time when Hashem will finally answer the questions of all the suffering in galus.
It’s about time our girls are educated in this most important aspect of our recent history.
Yasher Koach Mrs Lichtenstein! Thank you!
