A young alumnus of Yeshiva Gedolah Rabbinical College of Greater Miami has established a tuition scholarship fund for the upcoming school year of 5772 (2011-2012).
Dovi Lesches, partner of Lincoln Ventures and president of The Lesches Group, diversified real estate companies in New York City, has pledged to subsidize thousands of dollars for his alma mater.
“It’s like a homecoming for me,” Lesches said in a statement sent to COLlive.com. “I got my start there.”
He said he did not want a student to be denied a proper education due to financial hardships.
“I learned this from my grandmother, who sacrificed her life for the education of her kids. She would sacrifice everyday essentials just so her children will be educated in the best schools,” Lesches said.
The grant will be dedicated in memory of his grandparents, and will be called the Moshe and Chana Leah Fund. Grants will be available for qualifying students with above average grades.
“We at the yeshiva are tremendously grateful to be the recipients of Dovi’s generosity,” said Rabbi Leibel Schapiro, Rosh Yeshiva and rabbi of Congregation Beis Menachem in Miami Beach, Florida.
“It is touching that an alum of our school is reaching out to those less fortunate and making it possible for them, too, to have a genuine yeshiva experience. This will help us realize our dream of not turning away students for lack of financial funding.”
Lesches, who remained in close contact with the Yeshiva rabbis, has also generously contributed towards other projects in recent years. “I got my start there,” he proudly notes.

that someone stepped up to the plate & offered kids incentive to strive to do their best! Ask any teacher if they have offered various “rewards” for “above average” students! The perks have always been their. Now at least this might help the parents of our gifted kids by acknowledging that it isn’t free to educate brilliant minds. Yasher Koach Dovi!
ye #18 i agree. lets see the article when he actually gives the $
Boruch H”!!
May he have infinite Hatzlocha and Siyata Deshemaya!
Moshiach NOW! 🙂
Every student doing his or her best is worthy, not only those
with “above average grades”.
have you even tried to apply to miami? have u even asked what above average means? Every person is diffrent and has their own way of being above average. every single person without fail, has unique and good traits to himself. i personally think that if you are dedicated to do your best, and will be a positive addition to the yeshiva, they will offer you the same grant. If you’re not going to be a positive inforcment, then look at it as a business deal, why would you invest in loosing stock????? Dont say something that you dont know.… Read more »
DONT SPEND IT TILL YOU MAKE IT SON!!!

In Lubavitch yeshivahs students were always graded primarily by shmiras hasedorim. I would assume that’s what the donor meant by above average graded students.
he is 24
I actually spoke to Dovi himself this morning. The above grant for the “above average” was intended for those that “really” and “truly” want to learn this year. Your forgetting not to long ago Dovi was a attending that Yeshiva, admitting to me he was not necessarily from the “above average” group. I believe every Yeshiva administrator some time or another had a conversation with students regarding payment, some sent students home, others made their experience not from the best. Bottom line Dovi looks to accomplish just that. If your looking to learn. Looking to grow, and not monkey around,… Read more »
I went to that school and Rabbi B Korf (the administrator) called me into his office and told me I would have to go home if my parents could not pay!
I was 16 years old, I had no idea what the man wanted from me – it was one of the most embarrassing that had ever happened to me in my life.
Well I hope those days are over. Good luck!
he is single – about 23
Dovi hashem should bench you with all the mazel in the world
and it is a great thing you are doing
It would make sense that a person who is setting up a scholarship fund wants to be assured that the student is serious about his learning and not just getting a handout to live it up in Miami for a year.
Since when did we become so elitist? Why don’t we give our average students a chance anymore? Dovi, thanks very much for your generosity. We need to help our boys who are not the best in the class too. A boy who works hard and does just “ok” also deserves a chance! Or should we just toss him aside? This is not a Miami problem – this is system-wide. Parents take heed. The yeshivas are jockeying for the best boys only, the second best can go get a job or worse.
not married
dovi what a wonderful thing you are doing and am sure it makes your entire very proud and to #5 no he is single and we all hope that this will be a stepping stone to bigger and better things.
I think it’s great that he is helping out but the yeshiva is misguided in allocating the scholarship srtictly to above average students.
I am not from the elitest above average students. My goal in life isn’t to be a godol ha’dor but rather a poshet yid.Since when do our yeshivas cater to create future gedolim?
Besides, how does one measure who is merely average and who is above average: Does one use scholastic grades or yiras shomayim, brains or midos tovos?
Dovi, you are doing something great – but what is wrong with this picture??
that is very nice of him how old is he and is he married??
Dovi you should be an example to others , putting those in need before you. You should continue to be a true source of nachas to your parents.
Dovi, yasher koach for this and all the other beautiful tzedokos which you do happily and warmly. You already influenced so many bochurim with all the mivtzas and especially the ”mivtza rambam” which was done in many yeshivos with great success. I’m sure the Rebbe has much nachas from all of this. You are an example to everyone how to make a difference in today’s bochurim. Instead of just talking, you get down to action and get bochurim motivated to do the various mivtzas with a geshmak. May you merit the brocha of chazal ”aser bishvil shetisasher” together with all… Read more »
Michel wishing u continued nachas from your son! nice to see how he is helping others in these difficult times!!
