Jewish residents of Postville, Iowa, celebrated the city’s 5th Chumash Party with their boys this week at the Talmud Torah “Oholei Menachem.”
Initiated by Rabbi Pesachya Lipsker, children paraded in the streets holding miniature toy Torahs.
They left from the Jewish library to an event hall of a local bank who offered its space for the celebration.
Rabbi Yosef Lasker, principal of the Talmud Torah, thanked the organizers and wished the children another successful learning year.
A special prayer was said by participants for Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin, founder of the Jewish community in Postville, who is imprisoned in New York.
The event was dedicated to his immediate release.
