Hundreds of Jews welcomed a new Torah for the Chabad House of Geneva, Switzerland, at an event that combined rabbis and Shluchim with businessmen and lay leaders.
The event took place several days before Shavuos and was sponsored by Moshe Kantor, a prominent philanthropist and President of the European Jewish Congress, who dedicated the Torah to his late mother Pesha Polina OBM.
The last words were written in the garden of the Chabad House, after which the crowd of locals and guests danced with joy towards the Chabad shul, directed by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Pewsner.
Head Shliach to Switzerland Rabbi Mendel Rosenfeld was honored with reading a letter from the Rebbe to a similar occasion.
As the children’s choir of the Chabad preschool in Geneva sang, participants enjoyed a full catered meal and each guest received a piece of parchment with their Hebrew name inscribed on it and a piece of the velvet covering of the Torah.
Rabbi Moshe Klein of Crown Heights was the sofer stam. Fleishman Productions organized the event.
