Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes met Sunday with leaders and key members of the local frum Jewish communities over coffee and cake.
The meeting took place at Shemtov Manor kosher deli on New Utrecht Avenue in Borough Park.
“The purpose of this meeting was for DA Hynes to familiarize himself with the needs of the community,” said the host Ben Barber, businessman and a Bobuv askan.
“But it was also for the leaders to learn more about the work and services of the District Attorney’s office,” Barber told COLlive.com.
“He does not have to know the Satmar, Bobuv, Munkatsh or Skver communities only through the negative press and vice versa.”
Attending from Crown Heights were Vaad Hakohol Chairman Zaki Tamir, NCFJE Chairman Rabbi Shea Hecht, government liaison for the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council Chanina Sperlin and Eli Slavin, community liaison for Congresswoman Yvette Clarke.
Wearing a Kippa on his head, Hynes discussed many of the programs created to fight crime, but also prevent and educate. The DA mentioned Crown Heights leaders with whom he has a close relationship.
