On Wednesday, the fourth night of Chanukah, John Catsimatidis, chairman of the Red Apple Group, who is running for Mayor of New York City, assisted in lighting the world’s largest Chanukah Menorah at 5th Avenue and 59th Street in Manhattan.
This year’s lighting of the menorah is dedicated to the victims of the Mumbai terror attack last month. “The lighting of the World’s largest Chanukah Menorah takes on a special meaning this year,” said Rabbi Shmuel Butman, director of the Lubavitch Youth Organization, who lights the Menorah nightly together with special dignitaries such as Mr. Catsimatidis in a ‘Unite to Light’ campaign.
In Rabbi Butman’s opening remarks, he offered a heartfelt endorsement of Mr. Catsimatidis and proclaimed, “We had the present Mayor who lit with us Monday night and now we have the next Mayor of New York City tonight.”
The lighting of the World’s Largest Chanukah Menorah is the central event of Chanukah for millions of residents of New York and visitors to the Big Apple.
