The Passover Haggadah With Commentary from the Classic Commentators, Midrash, Kabbalah, the Chasidic Masters and the Haggadah of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, was released by Kehot Publication Society, the Chabad Lubavitch publishing house, in time for Passover.
The work, by Rabbi Yosef Marcus, the Chabad emissary to San Mateo, California gives the reader a comprehensive and fundamental understanding of the Seder and the festival of Passover.
With commentary culled from the classic Haggadah of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, the volume includes as well an eclectic array of commentators, classic to obscure.
“Rabbi Marcus has identified thought-provoking and inspirational material in the literature and presented it in a format that is easily digested by a wide readership,” said noted Chabad scholar and member of the Kehot editorial board, Rabbi Dovid Olidort.
With elegant and functional design, the Haggadah is an excellent companion to the Seder. Clever icons draw the reader’s eye to the different genres of commentary: Midrashic, Kabbalistic, Chasidic and classic. The Haggadah is printed in two-color and is illustrated with sophisticated, original artwork.
The lucid English commentary also provides step-by-step instructions to the various customs of the Seder. “Our goal,” says Rabbi Marcus, “was to provide a Haggadah that will explain not only what it is you’re doing or saying at any given point in the Haggadah, but also paint the full spectrum of generations of Jewish learning, from the moving tales of the Midrash to the profound insights of the Chasidic masters.”
Rabbi Marcus, who is also the author of Kehot’s bestselling Pirkei Avot, has gained a reputation for conveying the teachings of Chasidism in readable style while remaining true to the original sources.
“This work is as beautiful in its contents as it is in its appearance. It is comprehensive both in explaining Pesach and the Haggadah, highly insightful and thought-provoking in its commentary, and aesthetically so appealing as it leads you to insights drawn from Kaballah and Chassidus and the entire range of the Jewish tradition. And, for the more scholarly inclined, the 364 footnotes will draw you even more deeply into the study of the Seder, the Jewish people’s most widely celebrated ritual,” writes Rabbi Joseph Telushkin, author of Jewish Literacy and A Code of Jewish Ethics.
Early sales of the new Haggadah have been brisk and the feedback rewarding, Rabbi Yosef B. Friedman, director of Kehot, offered. “This edition of the Haggadah sets a new standard for beauty, clarity, comprehensiveness and relevance. It will surely become a timeless classic Passover Haggadah.”

I started reading the PDF sample you so kindly provided. I’m reading on my iPhone so I figure I’ll just take a glance. Twenty minutes later I realize i’m still reading it. Transfixed. Are you allowed to say page-turner about a holy book?
