On Sunday, Hey Teves, students of Cheder Menachem in Los Angeles celebrated Didan Notzach with a special program.
Rabbi Avraham Berns, a former librarian at the Agudas Chassidei Chabad Library spoke to the students, sharing a fascinating overview of the history of Seforim and the unique collection of Seforim, Chafeitzim and Kisvei Yad to be found in the Rebbe’s library. Students were riveted by the slide show and stories and requested to sit longer than the allotted hour.
Of particular interest was when Rabbi Berns allowed the students to view and handle some of the precious Seforim from his own private collection. The two-hour presentation left the students with a deeper appreciation and interest in the history of Hey Teves and with Seforim in general.
Rabbi Berns presented the students with a special Teshura (momento) of his visit; a photographed copy of a page from the Ba’al Shem Tov’s Siddur which is found in the Rebbe’s library which he himself photographed while serving as librarian.
In addition to his visit to the Cheder, Rabbi Berns made similar fascinating presentations throughout the Los Angeles Community; to N’shei Chabad, Mesivta Ohr Elchanan Chabad, Cong. Levi Yitzchok, Beis Chana Girls High School and Beis Chaya Mushka Girls School.
Following the presentations, the Cheder opened its annual Hey Teves Book Fair, which runs through Monday afternoon, Vov Teves, giving the children and their parents the opportunity to fulfill the Rebbe’s directive to purchase Seforim in connection to Hey Teves.
What a collection of antique books, they must be priceless!! Where did you accumulate such a collection?!?
Thank you for sharing your passion with our community and for giving our children a glimpse of what “their” library contains as the future generation of Chabad Chassidim. May this be only a beginning for you, you have much to share. The children were very excited by your visit! M.B.
Where are the rest of the Chevra???
My Son loved your presentation on the Seforim, Hope you come back again. I think every Chabad school should invite you to see your presentation. S.L
Wow! Once again our school has done amazing projects with the student body.
The Cheder is a prized jewel in the Rebbes educational system. The entire west coast is blessed with the wonderful staff.
Notice, that in the 3rd to last picture, Rabbi Berns is holding what seems to be an original invitation to the Rebbe & Rebbetzns wedding in Warsaw.
