First of all to # 15 and # 36 grow up and mature. Even if he is part of shomrim (AKA OUR COMUNITY PATROL ) he has not only not been involved in and of the politics but managed to stay friends with and help the other side as well. I know mendy since long before he got married and he has been nothing short of a major asset to our community, from the lives he has saved as an EMT (mine included). His valuable time spent with CERT, his amazing work with KSCK and his day to day help… Read more »

Just for the record, I worked with the Assemblyman for a number of years and he is a real Mentch. He and his office are always ready to help and have been there to serve the community, They have great ties with numerous Crown Heights leaders and are respectful of the community. In case Mendy, wins, be prepared to be in Albany 10 months a year 3 or 4 days a week unless the new Gov can’t pass the budget, say good bye to summer vacations. You should also know that part of the job is legislation as well as… Read more »

We don’t usually have to many of ours running , when we finally do, all you do is think in the negative. If you would all just vote for mendy and find out afterwards 1. If he made it 2. let him work and then you can see his accomplishments . How come in this community everyone knows everything. If you are all so smart why haven’t any of you changed this community for the better. We finally have someone running, A good guy .Someone who is always giving a helping hand when he can, so be a mentch and… Read more »

mendy is NOT part of the hershkop gang!
he is friends with everyone.
he is friends with sam stern and everyone.
mendy is the type of person that is EVERYONE’S ally.

He is definitely a man that is worth supporting.

I RESPECT AND WILL SUPPORT MENDY!

Free advice to Mr. Raitport;
October 18, 2010 11:31 am

Whatever you do, make sure the hershkop/shomrim gang don’t campaign or publicly support you

The last two candidates who “enjoyed” hershkop’s unsolicited propaganda lost the few crucial and centrist votes that would have elected them for office (i.e. Shea Hecht and Rabbi Bogomilski)

I know you are friends with them. However, I will be a pity if a yid loses this opportunity to do some good from within just because some people what to show muscle they don’t have

mendy is the man
October 18, 2010 11:21 am

Sorry but IT WILL NOT WORK
October 18, 2010 10:59 am

I hate to burst your bubble. I would love for him to win and wish taht I am wrong but there is absoluteley no way he will win. It is a shame to once again have to go through this only to find out a second time the same truth we learned the first time.

You think I am wrong fine, let’s wait and see and after the election come back here to comment that I was right……

It is the truth even if we don’t like it.

To any of you who say your entitled or anything besides Life, liberty and the PURSUIT of Happiness get a job. Its Welfare, food stamps, Taxes, Social Security, section 8, Unions, REDISTRIBUTION of ANYTHING including wealth, Bureaucracy, etc. that make people do nothing but sit at home and beg for Tzedakah and complain when they don’t get anything. Time for Real Change. All you Obama fans can learn the hard way by getting a job and earning everything you need and not by taking handouts. Tea Party Patriots are a source of light to the nation. America is a beacon… Read more »

What in the world are you talking about?

Do you think PURE capitalism is a Torah value? What about the education tax of Yehoshua ben Gamla? and subsequently in Halacha?

That is if you are a registered voter, if not then WHATEVER!

who even votes for these things….

Friend of Mendy
October 18, 2010 5:38 am

While I don’t know what chance he has in our largely tunkel district, I do know that Mendy Raitport is a mensch and a baal chessed who indeed is respected by all, whatever his personal views are on any issue in the community.

He is active with Mrs Benjamin’s hachnossos kallah, which like him is above all politics. He just does what he is supposed to as a community patrol member and is not involved in the politics between the 2 patrols.

I think you are totally wrong!

Mendy Raitport has nothing to do with Chanina Sperlin, Mendy Hendel and Elie Poltorak, so please stop spreading false rumors.

Mendy Raitport had nothing to do with any of the Messiras that almost locked up our fellow Jews.

Mendy Raitport had nothing to do with any of the lawsuits and Subpoena to our Rabonim and Gemachyim.

please dont shlep mendy down into the diversity issues of the community. Mendy has always risen above it and has has a way of maintaining amicable relations with ALL parties!

Mendy is NOT affiliated with one specific party and everyone knows that. He is friends with both sides and no one can say that they are not on Mendy”s side.

Not surprised.
October 17, 2010 6:47 pm

Why would anyone be surprised some people in this fine religious community continue to pick Social Services over Torah Values.
I really do not understand it.

We register as democrats b/c NYC is a democratic stronghold. By registering democratic, we get to vote twice. first in the primaries, and then in the general election. That’s the way politics works in this city.

Has the quality of life gotten better with ALL of those GOV programs? I say, give me a rod, and teach me how to fish, and get the GOV out of my life.

Gov Tzedakah, is not to be lifelong… should people be on GOV $$$ be any different than the dinnim of Hilchos Tzedoko?

Mendy is a nice guy is that enough of a reason to ruin any connections that if/when he does not win? we will lose any respect or help from whom ever wins the Assemblyman seat. And not to knock him but he is part of a group of people that spend there day trying to ruin the community and he has done lots of good but also made lots of problems for a well respected organization in CH 🙁 god bless us if he wins he will become a puppet for one special interest group and hurt everyone including the… Read more »

See Glenn Becks take on the Obion County fire a few weeks ago.

Public Services, like all forms of social welfare, amount to a redistribution of wealth, as taxpayers do not pay for services equally. In the puritan fantasy land of Tea Party members this is assur and as such, public fire departments need to be replaced by private subscription based fire services.

Finally a Republican!
October 17, 2010 1:43 pm

Its about time that frum Yidden support Republicans in local (not just national) elections.
How can we align ourselves with the Democrats, the party of immorality and liberal extremism?

If you want Mendy to Win then do something about it!
October 17, 2010 1:10 pm

Before all the neigh hood ‘meivinim’ cast their very intelligent opinions, let’s consider the following FACTS: In the November 4, 2008 re-election bid Camara won re-election to the New York State Assembly, District 43, defeating opponent Stuart Balberg (R). Camara won with 27,769 votes vs. Balberg’s 2,096 votes. The district has expanded by almost 6% over the past 2 years with less than a 0.04% increase of registered voters from our community. In order for Mendy Raitport to have any reasonable chance he would need to attract the support of a minimum of 14,000 additional voters. Raitport is a fine… Read more »

Huh?
This is beyond laughable.

“The Tea Party is comprised primarily of Ayn Rand Libertarians who would prefer to see public services like fire departments, public schooling, and other “services” you refer to eliminated. ”

show us one place (web site, article or speech) where such a concept is mentioned (about shutting down public safety serves).

its about time that we vote out all democrats.starting from governor seneate congress assembly etc. vote the republican line .all those that are worried about gov.programs they wont change ull still get them .u wont get higher taxes u will get less crime .

WE CAN DO IT!!!!
October 17, 2010 12:22 pm

We have to approach this very realistically. I believe that the assembly seat in our neighborhood is not decided by more than 6000 votes. If we bring out our vote, we can bring to the ballot more than 7000 votes just of our own. There are about 3000 families in Crown Heights, if all the men and women vote, then we mobilize the boys and girls who are over 18, then we can register all the out of town students, and we can easily show 7000 votes, plus. This way we project power and all the politicians will start respecting… Read more »

You really believe that the “standard of living” will get better for Crown Heights residents when you eliminate the Earned Income Credit, Child Tax Credit, food stamps, unemployment benefits, Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, WIC, Head Start, and Section 8 just to name a few? Really?

Either you are living in an alternative universe or you are running on the wrong ticket.
