While some may call him controversial, Mendy Pellin has a strong internet fan base for videos he has produced or acted in.
But the 3 x 5 inch YouTube screen may be too small to contain Mendy’s talent.
Recently, he’s been working behind and in front of the camera for various TV shows and movies.
Last week he could be spotted on set with Brad Pitt filming for a big sports movie (Moneyball – Columbia Pictures/Sony) to be released next year.
Ironically, Pitt has shaved his recently-grown beard for his role, although Mendy’s role required a beard.
Pellin, who was given his own trailer, filmed in the past weeks, with the schedule set up to to accommodate his observance of Succot and Simchat Torah.
When Pellin first met Pitt on the set of the movie, Pellin told COLlive, Pitt introduced himself to Pellin and told him, “I really enjoy your work.”
Pellin was also consulted for the movie, giving advice on Jewish custom and Chassidic dress to producers, for a more authentic feel.
“At least my beard is real,” quipped Pellin. “It should look authentic.”
While on set, Pellin, a born-and-bred Lubavitcher who has smicha from Rabbi Yeruslavsky in Israel, did Mivtzoim and wrapped Tefilin on some of the Jewish actors and production crew between takes. The art director put on tefilin for the very first time.
Pellin is currently acting in the independent film ‘A Modest Suggestion,’ filming in Baltimore for the next few weeks.
While a Lubavitcher comedian in a movie is a strange sight, an even more interesting sight just might be a Lubavitcher at a big-time Hollywood movie premiere.
Is there a way to see the part of the movie that has Mendy in it without seeing the whole movie? Can you at COL please post a clip of that part of the movie (assuming you can obtain a piece of the movie….maybe ask the producers explaining that there are ppl who want to see it who don’t watch movies). Thank you.
agreed!
everyone just worry about your own tafkid not everyone elses!
why do people have to automatically be so negative? Has he done anything wrong? is putting tefillin on Jews wrong? Is working with people who aren’t “chassidish” wrong? Is spreading the light and warmth of Yiddishkeit (which is NOT APPARENT from your disparaging remarks) wrong?
No. So stop jumping to conclusions, and be thankful a Chossid is working in the areas you dare not go and doing the work you dare not do.
Amen, Moshiach now. 🙂
im finding these comments strange!!
anyone with me??
guys, stop drooling over hollywood. Glitz and glamour is not better then what we have. (besides hollywood is place of adultry and pritzos) we should know better then to get all bent out of shape when we hear the word “holywood”
# 8 yr a looser , u dont know the first thing about life , u would be the worse father , thank g yr not mine

I’m your biggest fan!
p.s. I star on a video.
Dear number #52

I ALSO don’t know what eh movie means.
What hashgacha
I can hear chuppa bells already
i like your work…..lol.
coooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool!
Why is Mendy’s name not on the cast list on IMDB?
a movie is a ‘picture’ (pronounced: piktcheh) as in motion-picture: a video!
…remind me of the days when a 770 hook-up had something to do with satellites!
it wasnt long ago that this actor played an important role in anti semetic movie(s) and was more than fine with that!! watch out these are stiiicky situations
Make a Kiddush Hashem and Kiddush Lubavitch Mendy!!!
U r representing Lubavitch in Hollywood!
Make the Rebbe proud!
in hollywood! Go Mendy!
i think you made that story up!!!
What does the word movie mean??????????
even jewish people can be involved and make a kidush hashem!!!! but only if its a jewish movie.
rav shlomoh ben hutz comments that even if e.g.hollywood is sorounded with not jewish people he/she should still go and show all non jews who we are!!!
i hope this encourages all jewish pops to go and make a movie in hollywood!!!!
no need to thank me when your dreams come true!!!! good luck and plz dont check up that rabbie because you can trust me!!!
i am a true chossid so dont dis!!!!!!!
hes not on any cast list? how is he big enough to have his own trailer????
ha ha ha
anyone know?
This is gr8. Good luck mendy. Btw i dont watch movies but i believe that if someone does then it’s his personal thing. Every person needs to grow in their own things and maybe watching hollywood is such a little thing for them that it’s not so important. Each to their own. On that note i hav a photo wiv mendy pellin and wen he’s even bigger i’ll put it online to make me famous lol
All the best.
The director of the blockbuster was Jewish and wanted me to bless the movie with some a list actors. It gave me an opportunity to do Tefilin with him etc. I did a whole blessing – the movie never made it to screen.
What else is new in Hollywood?
effect is also a verb
Hatzlocho rabba! Do us proude 🙂
GS
i think pitt was just being nice/polite, but it’s anyway nice to see pellin moving up the entertainment ladder. i find him funny and talented and hope he hits mainstream, and not on pitts coattails either.
hey pellin, can you still put out a local monthly joke bit? make it include mainstream or general international news and perhps it can goviral…
Tarzana is proud
Why do you think this is a joke?? It’s not… he is in 2 movies, why is that so hard to believe
The Rebbe said take the lights of Tohu and put them in keillim of Tikkun. Mendy is working with Hollywood’s most famous and wealthiest film stars, Brad Pitt. Wake up everyone, Hollywood gets influenced by us and not the other way around. It wll all be for good!
So now it’s Kosher for a Lub to play in a movie. What a Chidush. Ad Mosai?
The comments on this article are even more entertaining than the article itself! (humor-wise)
man chabad is a community fortified with comedians..
And it doesn’t mention whether Mendy likely replied ‘ditto’ to adon pitt’s remark about liking and watchig HIS work.
Hehehehe
Why won’t u mention your own name?
This is obviously a joke i dont know why you are all getting so serious
we need to go to Achashverosh’s party …..?
let mendy do his shlichus…
we continue doing ours…
matisyahu does his….
salita does his…
stay on course 🙂
uh oh this is not for him or for any of us
This is sad, I’m sooooo convinced that Brad Pitt has taken the time to see Mendy Pellins work and that he is impressed……..Brad Pitt the oscar winner, riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
i LOVE the comments 😀
e/o: BRAD PITT IS A HOLLYWOOD MOVIE STAR FOR G-DS SAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS DEFINETLY NOT A REASON TO WATCH A MOVIE!
this is the new lubavitch???
Pardon, but what’s your name?
#23 effect is a noun, affect is a verb.
of course he should have HATZLOCHO RABOH in his parnosoh, you must admit it’s not a small thing he’s doing mivtzoim on the job. how many people do that?
I hate all these stupid comments…just all i can say is YOU ROCK!
i dont want mendy to become a paparazi himself
i hope he actually effects them rather then them effecting lubavitch.
I’m cringing.
Please enlighten me: Who is Brad Pitt and why do we care if he likes Mendy Pellin’s work?
Please do sign your names when you write a post telling us how you’re looking forward to seeing the movies discussed in the article. What, you don’t want for people to know who you are???? Why’s that? Perhaps you know that such an activity (watching Hollywood movies) is still pahst nit? Follow your Yetzer Tov, not your Yetzer Hara!!!! PLEASE!!!! That will give you and your families Yiddishe, Chassidishe Nachas!!!!! And that’s just the short-term reward. You’ll also be a dugma chaya for others, including your sweet kinderneshamalach. PLEASE, PLEASE!!!! You know better! (I just proved it!) [As for Rabbi… Read more »
hes not even on the list for full cast..
can someone please fill me in on who these famous pple in the photos are?
Now my shidduch resume can say chassidish but with it.
Ich shmeck a bissel kineh (jealousy)
Mendy, keep it coming!
this will be a fun movie to watch!
I’m humored by the fact that u don’t realize that #1 was employing sarcasm.
Sarcasm: “a sharp, bitter, or cutting expression or remark; a bitter jibe or taunt.” [1] Some authorities sharply distinguish sarcasm from irony,[2] however others argue that sarcasm may or often does involve irony.[3]” (wkipedia.com)
