Our kinderlach need real role models and to use money to measure success is ver y dangerous. Our kinderlach need frum role models who are permeated with a spirit of yiras shomayim in the way they look to the way they act.Every moment in golus is too long and for us to see our malkenu soon we need to promote yiras shomayim or why else are we connected to the Rebbe

One Hard Worker
October 7, 2010 7:23 pm

David is the hardest worker I know. He wakes up every morning at 5 am and often works, tirelessly, late into the night, hurrying home to see his family. Perhaps the combination of hard work and Yiras Hashem are they key to success.

his parents do not run public companies. Get your Schottenstein families straight. And for the love of G-d learn how to spell if you are going to post such heinous comments.
You need yiras shamaim, good brains, mazel and especially a very good heart. Be happy for others and Hashem will remember you as well. Why does everyone have to emphasize on OT. The story is “a successful guy who happens to have gone to OT” Finished. Even in the secular world it is not the norm but rather the exception

David and Eda Schottenstein sponsor Rabbi YY Jacobson’s weekly webcasts. Is that not worth mentioning? Is that not shlichus? Because of him and his wife, Torah is being disseminated across the globe every single week.

He IS the rebbe’s shliach. He supports numerous shluchim, he pays for their basic living needs, tuitions etc every single month. I know bc I am one of the many shluchim who benefits from his generosity and I can confidently say that the Rebbe considers him one of his shluchim.

Daveed has proven to be a true shining example – not just has he been very successful in business but he has shared that success with everyone from our community. Tzedaka is given to every cause. He has worked hard and doesnt give up. People should stop sitting like a bunch of our CH yentas and maybe they to will be blessed to give money to Tzedaka as well. FYI There are several young lubavitchers who have been Matzliach (very) in business, all with the sterling education provided by R’ P Anyone who has made anything will tell you it… Read more »

This has alot more to do with having parents who run public companies then it has to do with Ohlie Torah, anyhow we wish David lots of Mazel and Hatzlocha, and if your jealous start spending your energy on coming up with something good, not bashing others.

limudai chol
October 5, 2010 10:08 pm

The Rebbe Demanded “Chinuch al taharas hakodesh”.
“al taharas hakodesh” includes writing and math skills.
When did we get so radicalized? Would you suggest that we not get licenses because it requires “limudai chol”?
Besides, if Schatenstien grew up in CH, he would have a hard time reading and writing and may NOT have been successful!

October 5, 2010 6:24 pm

Sometimes when I read the comments on these pages i cringe at how negative and Jealous people can be. i think its amazing and may they continue from strength to strength. Im happy that someone from CH finaly decided to do something with his life that demanded more from him than just sitting in Seder all day until he got married. its hard to be a business man and frum and I take my hat off to these men that are doing it. I think your a positive influence and I would be proud to show my kids what a… Read more »

Success in any area is to be lauded. No need to belittle anyone or act bitter… One point however, Daveed made it totally on his own, with no seed money whatsoever!
Bottom line it is nobody’s business what, how and why!

The "Happy at 35" test
October 5, 2010 5:10 pm

As parents, the best we can give our kids for life is the foundations in their self-knowledge to wake up one morning at 35 years of age and be able to say they are happy – happy with who they are, happy with their choices, happy in their relationship with the Aibishter. This is not measured by the bank balance. And, ad rabba, a race to fill the bank account can DETRACT from this inner peace, if the kid thinks that this is what is important in life. The Rebbe says the BEST way to guarantee the child’s best chance… Read more »

I personally receive tremendous joy at reading about any Lubavitcher’s success- be it a Shaliach or business man/women

October 5, 2010 4:26 pm

Love the debate on this page… Great.

The key, I say, is what kid sees at home.

If he seems people who have guts and are go getters he will make it with or without offical edumacation.

You can’t outsource your kid’s future by thiking you pay for OT then you are yotzei.
There are no gurantees in life

If this story was so normal than it wouldn’t be news. The fact that someone is so finanically strong coming out of OT is a wonder and thats why we read the article to begin with. No one would read a story about OT bochrim showing up for seder and learning for 12 hours.

#12 you have no business sense
October 5, 2010 1:59 pm

The point is that a top car company like Bentley is joining forces with Schottensteins company!! Bentley has been around forever and they have a huge name so that adds a tremendous amount of prestige to Astor and Black. You must have gone to school in OT 🙂

He actually went to the lubavitch yeshiva in LA by the Rosh until 15 or 16 and then studied for 2 years in Venice Italy at Rabbi Wagners yeshiva. After that he was in Oholei Torah. I was with him in all 3 yeshivas. Very generous person, always gave to everyone.

October 5, 2010 1:28 pm

who are you to say that David Schottenstein is not a shliach? how do you know what kind of “shlichus” he does? A lot of people getting “shlichus” are sons or son-in-laws of other shluchim. Wake up and realize that earning a living and using it to spread yiddishkeit IS shlichus! This is what the rebbe wanted from all of us. I commend David Schottenstein for being an example of a real shliach.

How Funny is this
October 5, 2010 1:07 pm

Think about it, This guy found a way for a car company that charges $200.000 for car to give free suits. I say buy a Ford and get buy your own suit.

i wnet to yeshiva with “David Schottenstein”, he grew up learning english in the jewish day school in columbus ohio until 18 years of age, and then he went to “Oholei Torah” zall for 2 years, he also comes from a very very wealthy family and they gave him the cash to start his business

October 5, 2010 12:45 pm

why are we telling kids that success measures in money?
is that what we need to aspire to???

October 5, 2010 12:07 pm

Why are you all flying so high? Success does not mean million dollar deals, that is the exception rather than the rule. How many public school graduates are netting billion per year? Many are struggling these days including people who have been given money by parents or through inheritance. People who do exceptionally well usually do so due to a combination of personality, energy, and mazel. A modest success of being able to pay the bills and have a little left over is nothing to laugh at. Yeshiva kids tend to be quicker and brighter than average due to their… Read more »

October 5, 2010 11:38 am

B’H Daveed and others have been successful, also as #3 mentioned he also comes from a “business” family. That does not mean that we should continue to allow hundreds of our children to grown up without a proper viable education.

Wow such a broad statement. Do you really believe that since this kid made it your son does not need a education. Look at many of the OT graduates they are having a hard time with finding a job etc etc. Do not read this article believing that all OT graduates are doing fine

October 5, 2010 10:35 am

convince yourself. look at all the people struggling without a proper education. remember that he B”H comes from a very wealthy family and has a lot of backing.
