Rabbi Lipa Brennan to COLlive: This week I received this email from Sholom Mordechai and want to share it with you all. He continues to be an inspiration to us all and we must remain supporters of him b’gashmius ub’ruchnius.
B”H
To all my brothers askonim and family,
It’s Motzoei Yom Kippur and Motzoei Shabbos and I’m in the middle of my Melave Malka.
G-U-Ts TOG
The story that comes to mind is a story from the seneigur of klal yisroel Reb Levi Yitzchok ben Sarah Sosho of Barditchev. When Yom Kippur falls on Shabbos he says that it’s for sure there will be a chasima tova because Magid Devorov Leyaakov – since on Shabbos one is not allowed to write unless it is pikuach nefesh so Hashem must only write and seal that what is good for all of klal yisroel bechlal an everyone befrat.
Baruch Hashem, I am happy to report that we had a minyan every teffilah and for Mincha and Neiilah even more than a minyan.
A yid from Russia came and said he fasts every Yom Kippur the last 14 years and he came to every davening. Mi keamcho yisroel.
I was the baal tefilloh for all the tefillos because the rabbis who came did not want to. I have bitachon that all the bakoshos and tefillos were niskabel and like a good father, Hashem will add from his unlimited ability.
After the fast ended, one yid in particular came over to me bheiragshus gedoila. He said that he was really in awe during the tefillos so I hope the nitsutzois are being elevated.
I would also like to mention a yid from Cuba who since I arrived here never missed a teffila and put on Teffilin for the first time in his life on Erev Yom Kippur (it was very emotional). He got an aliya by Mincha and we gave him a Jewish name.
His name in goyish is Felix. I heard when there was a person who asked the Rebbe for a name and was told to choose a name where the first letter is the same as the goiyish letter. So I told him to choose something that begins with a “peh” or “feh.” After some public discussion, the man chose Peretz. I’ll I can say is: poratzto alecha peretz!
Before Mincha I had a long discussion with a yid here and the topic he chose was Yehuda and Tamar from whom Moshiach was born.
Also on Erev Yom Kippur i put on Teffilin with a Jew from Russia for the first time and the other yid from Russia.
We were able to light Yom Kippur and Shabbos licht and also a ner neshama. The peleh is that Baruch Hashem for havdalah we had ner sheshovas also. Hodu lashem ki tov! Hashem is GOOD. WE LOVE HASHEM.
There is definitely more to write but the “kindergarten” here needs to put us to bed so a gute yahr un a guter voch and a gmar chasima tova btov hanireh vehanigleh. And as the Rebbe says, “az gut is gut, is besser besser.”

its amazing, maybe the whole reason SMR was put in prison was to mikarev these people. hopefully he has done his shlichus and is ready to come home.
In your z’chus may Moshiach finally come right NOW!! The way you wrote I LOVE HASHEM! is just too beautiful to describe, but as it says in Tanya, when we accept our yisurim and tests with love Hashem will show us and you and yours, his love in an open revealed manner!! Moshiach NOW!!!
Moshiach is coming
Reb Sholom Mordechai is in the front row of soldiers bringing moshiach
We shall be zoiche to see all our tefillos be miskabel!!!
why is he the student in the kindergarten, and not the teacher?
hashem bless you!
Incredible person!
I’m sure from all the good he is doing there and everywhere he goes, he will be freed bkorov mamosh!
Such Emunah!!
This letter made me almost cry!!!!
He already did his mission in Jail to elevate the sparks NOW its time for him to go out!!
Wow!
This – is a chossid! This is a chossid! This is a chossid!
we can all learn from u sholom!!
with “H”s help and klal yisroels help u will be out in no time!!!!
thank u so much for writing and keep us posted!!
we can all learn from u to change hard times in to not the worst!!!!!
we are all crying for u.
we respect u ever so much.
He’s in jail, a situation which would make the ordinary person fall apart, and he’s doing shlichus! What an incredible, incredible person and true chossid! Hashem, free him now!
I too am ashamed by my lack of mivtzoyim. This letter brought tears to my eyes. He said mi k’amcha yisroel by his fellow prisoner, the Russian Yid. We can say it on Reb Shalom Mordechai.
WHAT A DUGMA CHAYA!!! what a true chossid!!!
In SMR’s Zechus I will begin to put on Tifilin with Yidden
and elevating it way beyond its status…
Rabbi Rubashkin has taken on the rotten jail system, and is openly daring them to bring on their klipahs, only to “nuke” them one by one with torah, tefilah, tzedaka!! He’s actually teaching us the ropes of TRUE SHLICHUS with each passing chag……R”L, may he be freed soon I feel.
Reb Shalom, reading of how you are conducting yourself under these circumstances is a real Kiddish Hashem.Today I read a quote that goes “Courage is being in control of fear Not
the absence of fear.Your simcha should be poretz geder biruchnius upifrat bigashmius!
where can i send a letter to RSM?
YOU ARE MAKING US PROUD!
MOSHIACH NOW! AMEN!
imyh ur tefilot should be answered letova and u should be freed berof moshiech comes!!!!!
WE WANT MOSHIEACH NOW!!!!!!
we are all thinking of u back in london [u prob dont know us] and we are always davening for u.
imyh the next time u write should be the last and u will be out!! all our wormth!!!
Great idea, but not as a resident. He should be freed NOW & then he can go back & visit daily !!
I can’t do much especially financially, but I say Tehillim for a Yeshua for him every single day. I pray that G-d listens, because every one is heartfelt.
thats really all i can say. my thoughts are too much to put in words, after reading this letter
amazing!
Sounds like Sholom is doing a fantastic job, and that there are plenty of Yidden there.
Perhaps Merkos should make it official and make Mr. Rubashkin the Shliach to the Otisville Correctional Facility.
I’d love to hear Rabbi Rubashkin report about His stay in Crown Heights!
what a dugma chaya!!
write us more bcause u are strenghtening us!!!!
bessoros tovos!!!
i daven for u in the shema kolenou 3 times a day .
this is so insperational. may hashem answer all out tfilos!
the “koach” and energy you give the sense of humor that you always share with us is great
we love you
mendel j your son from postiville
this communication media that allows us a peak into Sholom Mordechai’s life – a life full of connection to Hashem and other yidden – is astounding.
What a Yid!!!
What beautiful bitachon you have! May Hashem grant you true freedom… the freedom to serve Him at home with your family continuing your holy work of uniting the Jewish community and bringing people back to Yiddishkeit.
of course he was inscribed for a good year!!!
inscribed for a didan notzach………. NOW
Once again, how can you not be in total awe.
May he see a geulah shleim bekoroiv and may klal yisroel see the geualh ha’amitis vehashleima bekoroiv!!
