Thank you so much for posting this. We were raised with this story, and it is surreal to see this right before yom kippur. May we hear Moshe Segal blow the shofar this Yom Kippur.

that is my heroic and incredible great grandfather, whose yurzeit is yom kippur!! my great grandfather was a religious zionist, wanted to settle the land of eretz yisroel, thats why when the frideker rebbe wanted kfar chabad to be established my zaidy was the first, he was not a lubavither then, but wanted to settle the land!! and therefore as it says he was the first to settle the old city! always a mekusher he died a chossid!! zoche to a dynasty in chabad!!!

Rabbi Segal told the story to our seminary class in the early 70’s. His granddaughter, Carmella Segal from Acco, was in Michlalah Yerushalayim with us, and we visited him at home in the Old City. The “punch line” of his talk was that a “very important person” told him to continue blowing the shofar at the Kotel each year!
