Over fifteen bochurim got together this summer to fulfill the directive of the Rebbe to never take a vacation from learning Torah, by joining a yeshivas kayitz – summer yeshiva in London from after Tisha B’av until Rosh Chodesh Elul.
The program, beginning at 8:00 am and ending with Maariv at 10:00 pm, was held under the direction of Rabbi Chaim Rapaport.
The Yeshivas Kayitz was fortunate to have an outstanding Iyun shiur given every day by Rabbi Rapaport himself. The gemora learned was on the sugya of kidush b’mokom seuda and went from gemora – rashbam – tosafas right down until halocha l’maasa from today’s acharoinim.
Other Magidei shiur included Rabbi Leibish Heller from the Lubavitch Yeshiva Gedolah in London and Rabbi Y. D. Klein from kolel Chodosh in Manchester.
A shiur on a sicha of the Rebbe was also given at night by Rabbi Rapaport on the concept of shmira of a mezuza. There was also a two hour lunch break for recreational activities, when the bochurim played tennis, football and table tennis.
In the words of one of the bochurim, “It would have been very hard to go through the whole summer without the avir of a yeshiva, and I am very grateful to the organizers for the most “geshmake” summer I have ever had.”

job well done!!
He’s my uncle!!!!!!
great work!!
levi klyne the best bochur in lubavitch
Yeshivos who are open during the summer, please let parents KNOW of this option. They should accept talmidim who wish to come, whether or not they learned there during the year.
My son was a counselor because he wanted to make a difference in a child’s chinuch. However, the camps don’t give an opportunity for bochurim who are counselors to learn during the day, and he regrets his choice.
proud of you levi!
it’s poshut nice to see that us londoners are the ones learning in our already short summer just as the rebbe wanted
go Levi!
GREAT ARTICLE!!
Hey Levi Klyne, good to see you!
I think there is a misconception out there that ALL bochurim need to do merkos Shlichus or become a counselor, but actually I have a son who would love to sit and learn and there was no seder in many cities after Tisha Baav for him. LETS GET BACK TO BASICS and encourage LEARNING too!! The Rebbe spoke of Merkos Shlichus for only THREE WEEKS. Otherwise a bochur should SIT and Learn. If he cant, after a whole year and needs a break, then he should consider other options, but BASICALLY, THE YESHIVOS SHOULD ENCOURAGE AND ACCOMODATE BOCHURIM TO SIT… Read more »
