Two senior rabbis and another unknown Rosh Kollel from Israel are being mentioned as possible candidates in the Crown Heights election for beis din.
Rabbi Nissan Mangel, Rabbi Moshe Bogomilsky and Rabbi Emanual Chaviv are said to be running September 5 to become the third member of the Bais Din.
Whoever is going to be chosen will join the existing two members Rabbi Avrohom Osdoba and Rabbi Yaakov Schwei, whose differences have left the rabbinical institution inactive.
The election for a third Rov is being held after the ruling of a special bais din headed by Rabbi Avrohom Rosenberg of Monsey working to restore order to Crown Heights communal organizations.
Individuals involved in the elections have criticized Rabbi Rosenberg’s rules imposed on the election process, suggesting that with less restrictions there may be a greater variety of candidates as well as a younger slate.
The deadline for submitting a candidate was Friday, August 6. There is one week allowance for candidates and other information to be released.
Each candidate was required to obtain approval from Rabbi Osdoba or Rabbi Schwei, or, as the psak states, direct approval from Rabbi Rosenberg’s Bais Din.
COLlive.com has learned about the following candidates:
Rabbi Osdoba has endorsed Rabbi Bogomilsky, a member of Vaad Rabbonei Lubavitch and former principal of United Lubavitch Yeshiva of Ocean Parkway. In recent years he has been running a local gemach and has been answering halachic questions.
Rabbi Schwei has endorsed Rabbi Mangel, a Holocaust survivor and Rov of the Ksav Sofer Shul on Empire Boulevard in Crown Heights. For years he worked as an author and translator of many books for Kehot Publication Society, including the Tanya and Tehilas Hashem siddur.
French-born Rabbi Chaviv, Rosh Kollel Torah Ohr in the city of Beitar Illit who learned in 770 and received smicha for dayanus, was denied approval from Osdoba and Schwei.
It is not clear weather Rosenberg will be allowing him run and whether there were others who are awaiting confirmation.
UPDATE (11:18 pm EST): Rabbi Mangel, who is currently on vacation out of the State of New York, has sent a message to COLlive.com.
“He has unequivocally said he is not running,” said his family member emphatically, as he was asked to pass on the message.
Asked about a signed letter from Rabbi Schwei endorsing his candidacy, the family member repeated: “Rabbi Mangel said he is not running. That’s it.”
I used to live in Beitar Illit He is a farbrenter Mishichist.
Bad choice!!!!!!
A better choice would be HaRav Osherl Lemel Cohen who is a Lubavitcher poosek & also lives in Beitar!!!!!
Rabbi Bogomilsky is the Defacto rav in Crown Heights and to most shluchim in the US. From personal experience he is called with shailos all hours of the day. If he is even willing to Be rov of this community we should jump on the opportunity. The only people who should be afraid are the Meshichistim because you all knows he sees right thru you all. Thats the reason why they are opposed to him and afraid of him. Finally a real Talmid Chochom and someone who was very close to the Rebbe.
Very worthy.
has very good english and people skills. we need people like him to deal with the world.
I heard a few months ago directly from Rabbi Mangel that twenty some years ago there was a certain issue in CH and after the Rebbe did not respond to certain peoples letters they asked Rabbi Chodakov, and he obviously although he met with some of them, he let it be clear that if the Rebbe does not want to be involved, he won’t be either. At that point some ten individuals asked Rabbi Mangel if they can speak to him. Realizing what the issue is, he asked Rabbi Chodakov should he meet them? Rabbi Chodakov replied, being that you… Read more »
rabbi mendelboum, official representative of the true chassidim, has let it be known;
I VILL NOT BE RUNNING FOR ZE RABONUS.
It would be very nice if at the same time we elect our new Rov/Rabonim , we should also elect a Purim Rav, and I don’t mean that he should be a Rov only on Purim, rather that he should cause our Shtetel to be Purimdik a whole year, I would like to hear some good suggestions for candidates.
While the yungerleit may be
“chassidishe”, we in Chabad can not take pride in their knowledge of halacha. This is my experience after having lived more than 20 years in CH.
ofter all said and done its you r. bogomilsky who has the respect from both rabonim. so all of u out there. just take this in mind. IF YOU WANT PEACE IN THE CURT. THEN THERE IS NO OTHER CHOICE THEN RABBI BOGOMILSKY. also he wont let bord stupid ppl who dont have a job to mix in and make fights between the rabonim. hes to smart for that. he will create a respect that when the rabonim pasken its real etc etc. SO TAKE UR POLITICS ASIDE AND LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE
Stop calling Rabbi Bogomilsky with nickNames and stop spreading Loshon Horo against Rabbi Mangel. Hapeh Sheosar Hapeh Shehitir. Even those who claim that the Rebbe MH”M told him not to run say they know it and heard from Rabbi Mangel. Rabbi Mangel acoording to post 14 has disclaimed any of that. Probably those who heard did not hear regarding Rabonus and got mixed up. In any event lets stop being Negative vhevi Dan es kol Haadam Lekaf Zchus.
rabbi bogomilsky is an excellent choice.
Who was this mysterious “family member” who claims to speak for Rabbi Mangel? Is he genuine?
The fact that both R’ Osdoba and R’ Schwei are opposed to him seems like the best reason to vote for him. Any candidate with such a platform will have the most success.
for rov of the ch
Rabbi Bogomilski is a very smart man not just in Torah but in simple life “Bayn Yish Lrayho…etc. which is a very important component to have in out Bias Bin. He find ways to bring everyone together.
Congratulation Rabbi M. Bogomilsky, a person of logic and sense.
I hope you’ll finally put some sense to our neighborhood..Thank you for accepting this hard job.
#18 himself, needs to come clean before he trows dirt on a Rov of 30 years, kol haposel…..
If R. Mangel is backing out, who’s on R. Schwei’s list? And ANYBODY but Bogomilsky!!!
bogo is just a politicon he always fought againts osdaba and now what? money!! politics!!
he might be a very big talmid chochom but he is in pokitics, i think it wuld be better to choose some one wich is a talmid chochom but not in politics like mangel
Rabbi Bogomilsky fought all the way agints Rabbi Marlow. i dont think it’s right to vote for him when he always said that only vaad rabonei lubavitch and not badatz crown heights
the rebbe told rabbi mangel not to run as rov of c.h.
we should ask him if this is true!!
RABBI BOGOMILSKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We don’t need a rocket scientist to see that at least one of them is running simply to block any potential fresh and independent voice. It is entirely possible that the 2nd was enlisted to stop the 1st. There should be a write in space for a possible late comer who can neutralize the polarity. Or else a place to disapprove both. Who would have thought that these 2 capable people would have enlisted in this in their later years. Why did they not until now? It smells like erev shabbos in a fish store. Those who know are aware… Read more »
Rav Bogomilsky is a good choice; I don’t know who Rav Habib/Haviv is.
Rabbi Mangel said on 2 occasions, (once @ a N’snei Chabad gatering, in the Lubavicher Yeshiva on Crown St., and once @ a farbreingen in the K’sav Sofer Shul, that the Rebbe answered him years ago, not to (mish zich) be involved in the Rabonus of crown hights
Who would want to join the two Rabbonim who will never live together in peace.
Why would a strong independent Rov, want to get involved with such people.
We need a Beis Din of at least 5 experienced Dayanim, then the two present Rabbonim will not have ultimate power.
It seems that we are in for something which will not help the community.
Rabbi Bogomilsky needs to come clean regarding his Gemach, before he should be considered
hashem yerachm
u know ////
i heard that Rabbi Mangel was asked about that, and he said it is NOT true. but he continued.. that he is still NOT running.
i guess he changed his mind
If you are already having elections, why aren’t you going for younger rabbonim who will have the opportunity to grow with the community, instead of “senior” individuals.
There are so many competent young rabbis who are big talmidei chachimin, chassidishe yungeleit and totally familiar with the problems and have the modern know how of how to address them.
C’mon people, surely that’s the way to go.
I have heard from Rabbi Mangel (years ago) that that is an absolute lie, with no basis to it whatsoever.
He would make a good rov for the community.
can use a new pair of glasses
dosen’t really need a new job in rabbonus
Is that true that Rabbi Mangel had a direct order from the Rebe not to be a rov or it is only a loshen hore, even though people say they know it for a fact.
I think the community is entitled to know the truth.
Please get the response from Rabbi Mangel, because without his clarification the facts he will not be able to win, and maybe he can not be a candidate to run.
He has my support!
Evan I am not a chosid from either I still think Rabbi Bogomilski should be the rov because he is good with both Rabbis Shway and Osdoba,
where is rabbi garelik in all of this
and i thought there was actually going to be progress instead its going to be another head on top of a set of shoulders that is mimicing the current timeless situation
oy
imh there will be sholom
I thought the Rebbe told Rabbi Mangel not to get involved in rabbonus of the schuna? Anyone?
hu? who is that? y would he run?
Can we please have more info on Rabbi Habib? Until then we must vote for rabbi mangel and only rabbi manhel. Rabboisai please have rachmunus on or community. vote Rabbi Mangel
who is he and why does he want to move here?
