Vilsack Honors Agri Prosecution
No shame: U.S. Agiculture Secretary Tom Vilsack awarded 7 members of the team that prosecuted Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin. by Grant Schulte, The Des Moines Register
Seven members of the team that prosecuted Sholom Rubashkin and other former employees at Agriprocessors Inc. have won a national award from U.S. Agiculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.
Vilsack recognized the group with the Secretary’s Annual Honor Award, during a ceremony Tuesday in Washington D.C.
The U.S. Attorney employees were recognized for their work on the Packers and Stockyards violations that took place at the northeast Iowa meat plant.
Prosecutors alleged that Rubashkin violated the act when he ignored an order to pay cattle providers in the time required by law. Rubashkin was convicted of 15 out of the 20 counts during his federal trial in South Dakota.
In past interviews, legal scholars familiar with the U.S. Packers and Stockyards Act said they had never seen the law used to prosecute a criminal case.
The Honors Award is considered the most prestigious accolade given by the USDA, prosecutors said in a statement. The award reflects efforts to revitalize rural communities, conserve national resources, and promote agricultural production.
The winners were assistant U.S. attorneys Matt Cole, Peter Deegan Jr., and C.J. Williams; legal assistant Sali Van Weelden; litigation support specialist Lee C. Meyer; paralegal specialist Maureen Oviatt; and victim-witness specialist Shari Konarske.
Honored with them were members of the Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration in Des Moines, Iowa: Bruce A. Gardner, Gregory Andrews, Adam Fast, Tanisha Mapes, Luis Sosa, Casey Sturgill and LaDondra Taylor.
They were commended "For dedicated and professional efforts to return over $5.3 million to farmers and ranchers in full and fair payment for their product, helping to ensure their economic viability."

This Sone Israel will yet have his day.
Everyone who really cares should take a 'Hachloto toiva' lizchoet Reb Sholom Rubashkin!!!!
We are a holy nation - we should be a light amongst them - but anyone reading the comments that people are making here would be shocked....
If we honestly believe in Hashem and His Justice, we will know it will all come right in the end.., whether we see it or not. However, how can we call for death on another person or people - no matter how wronged we feel?
Calling for their death only brings animosity, and even if it is just 'a phrase' and I know no one actually means it, but if so, then why say it?
Please be careful of what you say and please G-d the hand of G-d we will see the goodness of the situation in a revealed way very soon.
You should know and those involved should know, there is a G-d in the world (You know this) who gave us Holy Laws.
A non-Jew who transgresses any of 'The 7 Noahide Laws' is eligible for the death penalty (Under the proper conditions.).
This is the non-Jew's main purpose in life and reason for living. When they transgress any of these righteous laws they have given up their reason for living.
There is nothing to hide or be ashamed of. We Jews have more death-penalty possibilities than the non-Jews. They are in different areas, that's all.
I started a class in these laws in Crown Heights.
