The menorah was attached to the top of the Dungeon Drop, a ride at King Richard's, competing in height with the largest menorah in the world in New York City.

Minutes before leaving for Gaza on the eighth night of Chanukah, Shluchim from Chabad of Be'er Sheva joined a group of soldiers for a Menorah lighting. The shluchim gave warm words of encouragement, and joined the soldiers in a dance, finally ending the gathering at 2:00 am. COLLive was allowed to video, however the images were distorted by IDF request for security reasons.

At least 15 people were injured after a blue SUV slammed into a building that houses the Chanukah Wonderland of Chabad of the Five Towns. Shliach Rabbi Zalman Wolowik has requested that we say tehillim for the critically injured. One staff membertold COLlive, "It was truly Hashgacha Pratis that four shluchim - Rabbi Zalman and Chanie Wolowik and Rabbi Meir and Hadassah Geisinsky were all here at the time of the accident, which is not usual - they usually come in shifts. They were all on hand to deal with the crisis."

More than 30 students from the Shul in Detroit are collecting canned food for a 'Can-Orah,' which will later be donated to a local food bank. Levi Stein, a 20-year-old rabbi at the Shul, said they have made menorahs out of unusual objects in the past. Last year it was LEGOs. One year, a menorah was placed on a construction crane and fireworks were lit. Full Story

Preparation is underway for a benefit concert for the orphans of the Mumbai terror attack victims. The concert will take place on Motzoei Shabbos Chanukah, and will feature Mordechai Ben David, Yeedle, and Moshe Benasher singing his emotional tribute "Fallen Angels," among others. Full Story

A mass Menorah Lighting will be held at the Statue of Liberty, organized by Merkos, who has received special permission for this unique event. "As a symbol that beckons with her light and represents the values under assault by those who terrorized Mumbai, we thought the Statue of Liberty a suitable backdrop for Unite the Lights in New York," said Rabbi Mendel Sharfstein, one event coordinator. In a first for the Crown Heights community, an outdoor public menorah lighting is planned for Sunday, the 1st night of Chanukah, on the corner of Crown Street and Albany Avenue. The menorah lighting will be followed by Chanukah activities. Men, women and children are invited. Info in Full Story

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger joined Chabad of California for a Menorah lighting ceremony at the California capitol. Speakers included radio personality Dennis Prager, Governor Schwarzenegger, and West Coast Chabad Director Rabbi Boruch Shlomo Cunin, who said, "We are not afraid of darkness, bullets, or hatred...we are going to bring more light to the world." A giant 26 ft. tall menorah was installed today on the roof of 770 in Kfar Chabad. The menorah is dedicated to the memory of Mumbai Shluchim Rabbi Gavriel and Rivkah Holtzberg HY"D. "You can't imagine the 'Pirumei Nisa' that this Menorah is going to bring throughout Chanukah," Rabbi Menachem Latar told COLLive. "The increase in light is our answer to terror." Video, Photos

Merkos is embarking on a new campaign, COLlive has learned. The campaign, "Unite the Lights," is in memory of slain shluchim Gavriel and Rivkah Holtzberg and the other Mumbai victims, and is designed to enhance Chanukah activities to help achieve 'pirsumei nisa' in record numbers. The initiative was announced to Shluchim yesterday, with a letter from Rabbis Yehuda Krinsky and Moshe Kotlarsky. Full Story

Rabbi Shlomo Bentolila, Chabad's Shliach to Central Africa, has embarked on a tour of Africa, visiting Jewish communities as part of his Hakhel efforts. His first stop: Abidjan, a central city in the Ivory Coast. He met with the country's President, the Israeli ambassador and local Jews whom he presented with Chanukah menorahs. Photos

Flatbush resident Moshe Benasher broke into tears when hearing about Holtzberg's tragic death in Mumbai and did what he knows to do: compose. Over 700 attended a memorial at Johannesburg's central Chabad House, as a diverse crowd converged to pay tribute to the victims of last month's Mumbai massacre. Rabbi Dovid Masinter, director of the central Chabad House, announced new initiatives in their honor, including a "Proudly Jewish" day, where all men would be encouraged to wear a kippah to work for a day. Masses of people turned out in London for a special memorial evening in honor of the Mumbai Shluchim HY"D, addressed by the British Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, Head Shliach Rabbi Nachman Sudak and Rabbi Yitzchak Schochet. Snapshot of the new clip

Several people were seen today at the olive grove near the village of Kfar Chabad, Israel. "This whole area is abandoned, so the owner gave us permission to pick the olives," an elderly man told COLlive. "If we get them now, we will have olive oil in time for Chanukah." Full Story
