The answer to your question: (“Why is the video titled ‘The True Story Revealed’, when there is no information about what really happened?” ) is given in Response #30. What really happened is apparently not relevant in the current thinking. We forgive all “mistakes” of heimishe yidden. And the mistake of our community is that we make believe that violating the reasonable laws of this country is gor nisht mit gor nisht – just a “mistake”. So the list will get longer and longer: Rubashkin, Ezagui, etc etc.

Hasheem has already forgived him.Why cant Goims, acknowledge that we arnt all perfect, and Rubushkin sentence is very harsh. He has a prior record of doing MITSVAHS.He has helped many, and will only do acts of kindness, forever. Jeffrey Ben Mary Davis.,Portland,Oregon

Eli spent hundreds of hours on the phone helping people in Florida,or NY or from the moon he never said I’m to busy call me back later i never saw him for more the 30 seconds not being on the phone ,i think he had 2 phones one for serious problems like bailing someone out of jail ,and one phone for domestic violence .when i spoke to him ,i was probably driving him crazy with my problems he probably had a 3rd phone just for me,he always made time for me and if yes he needed to take another call… Read more »

If you were in his situation I’m sure you would be writing different comments. Please think before you post a comment. It could really hurt someone!

How does a lawyer of record refuse to work on the case until more money is paid? The lawyer should either obtain the court’s permission to withdraw or do her job and worry about the money second.

Mr Ezaugui is not going to jail for for soley scamming pple of there apartments if you read correctly and look into the real case of his charges it is on BANK FRAUD!!!!!!!! get your facts straight

When will Anash learn?
July 19, 2010 7:59 am

When I see our leaders teach the youth to live on the straight and narrow, I will contirubte more to both causes.

When I see brochure put in print that he is in prison b/c he is a Jew it makes me think the community I grew up in would rather keep their heads in the sand than actually learn from these unfortunate situations.

WOW!!
July 19, 2010 6:09 am

people! do you see the ahavas yisroel of sholom mordechai halevi?! HE is sitting in JAIL and HE is thinking about OTHER people!!! and how to HELP THEM!!!! NO ONE thought about it before and probably if someone did it wouldnt be from his heart…. SHOLOM MORDECHAI HALEVI BEN RIVKAH HAS A HEART OF GOLD!!!!!

what is the truth?
July 19, 2010 4:46 am

I like everyone here pray and hope that both of these men get the justice they deserve. But let us not never forget, that we cannot continue to live our lives as though materialism is the only thing that matters. We must ask ourselves what hashem REALLY wants from us and be true to the torah.
This is not a rant but rather something that seems to be continuously missed out when we hear unfortunate stories in Chabad.Chabad is the leading light in yiddishkeit and it must continue to show the world what the Rebbe always set out to do.Bring light and moshiach.

Actually, there is no difference between Ezagui and Rubaskin. We are not the jury nor are we the judge. Rubashkin is our brother and Ezagui is our brother. We must help all who we can and not turn away others from helping either of them.

Eli is a Good man!
July 19, 2010 12:51 am

We have known him and his children for years. His son almost died on the front lines fighting for our land that the aibishter gave us,Eli was a supporter of many chabad houses and yes he tried to better the Shechunah by giving low cost housing and low downpayments, unfortunately for him he dug himself too deep. ,none of this was meant maliciously in any way. He would not harm a fly….it was just stupid MISTAKES. When we first were married in 1994 we made an $8000 down payment on one of his first housing projects. It was officially “non… Read more »

Apples are Not Oranges
July 19, 2010 12:24 am

There is a big difference between what Eliyahu Ezagui was convicted of and what Sholom Rubashkin was convicted of.

Apples are not Oranges.

Eli Ezagui lived the high life in Aventura, Florida and I don’t believe he came to build in Crown Heights to better the shchuna.

try telling that to all the tenants of his that visit him EVERY single shabbos!
he gave them amazing deals, kept it in his name, so he could get loans to keep doing good things, and carried timely payments for over FIFTEEN years!!!!
if he was scammng them, then he didnt do it very well!

he had enough money in florida real estate, he only came to shchuna to HELP!

The way you write is disgusting, no compassion. I would not be surprised if you ratted on him. If we have a problem with being ripped off, dont we Jews have something called a Beis Din? Jail is wrong, wrong, wrong. It is immoral to send a Jew to jail where you deprive him of life and safety. Sending a Jew to jail is far, far worse than stealing. With theft, a person can make restitution; sending someone to jail deprives them of their very existence and puts their life and health in jeopardy. It is disgusting to read a… Read more »

Eli Ezagui does not deserve the terrible punishment planned. Eli has done tremendous good for our community, and should be appreciated as opposed to being ostracized. Thank you Sholom Mordechai for your letter and thank you COL for publicizing it

Why?
July 18, 2010 9:50 pm

They should both be freed immediately, and have a full Geulah.

I have a question: Why is the video titled ‘The True Story Revealed’, when there is no information about what really happened?

It is pidon nefesh to do all we can to help eliyahu. He has only done good for our community and is in trouble only because of mesira. Dear brothers we hurt ourselves when we turn another yid to the gov. at the end it will hurt us too. we must stop running to the d.a. everytime something goes wrong. we must go to a bais din. and if we have problems with our bais din their is other bais dins that we can go to. but to bring the feds and the d.a in the picture is a complete… Read more »

Eliyahu is a very good man who did good for the community
July 18, 2010 7:53 pm

We must all come out for Eliyahu as we did for SHolom Mordechai. He is one of us who does not deserve what is being handed to him. In these days before Tisha B’Av lets all unite and help a fellow good Jew. Thank you COL for posting this very important message.

this man took advantage of probably over 100 families over the last ten years. He allowed new couples with very little funds to stay in homes that had bad wiring, improper plumbing and worse when the building first went. people lived in there unsafely with no way to complain because they were all there illegaly and he said to them they can’t complain. I know two couples who did this. and in the end he took advantage of people lying about mortgages and leaving them possibly homeless. there is a line people. I will not give one cent to a… Read more »
