Who would believe that Crown Heights and Satmar would have so much in common – considering the fact that they share a historic troubling past.
Rebbetzin Pesel Leah Teitelbaum, wife of the previous Satmar Rebbe, the Beirach Moshe, passed away this past Monday.
Her two sons, each claiming the title of succesor of the previous Satmar Rebbe, are mourning her in separate locations: Rebbe Aaron Teitelbaum in Kiryas Joel and Rebbe Zalman Leib Teitelbaum in Williamsburg.
The new chairman of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council, Zaki Tamir tried Sunday to arrange a joint visit by Rabbi Avrohom Osdoba and Rabbi Yaakov Schwei, the members of the Crown Heights Bais Din.
“I got close to progress,” Tamir told COLlive.com. “They both admitted that in theory it would be beneficial for them to be stuck in a car together for the ride Upstate.”
Tamir would not explain the reason it fell through. Conversations with each side noted various reasons.
Finally, Rabbi Schwei traveled to Monroe with Rabbi Leibel Groner, the Rebbe’s secretary, and Chanina Sperlin and Eli Slavin. His first trip also included Shlomo Drimmer.
There the group met with the Shliach in Albany Rabbi Yisroel Rubin, the Shliach in Palm Springs – CA Rabbi Yonason Denebeim and others.
A second delegation included Rabbi Shlomo Segal, Rabbi Yitzchak Zirkind, and Rabbi Moshe Bogomilsky. They were accompanied by former Vaad Hakohol chairman Noochie Gross and Rabbi Yossi Friedman.
After viewing the pictures I wonder: What’s better – Having 2 Rebbes or Not having even one Rebbe? — I’m not looking for answers, just bemoaning the state of contemporary Chassidus.
This picture was taken in the medical office of Dr. Zev Zelenko. He is the primary care Doctor for the Satmar community and the medical director of Kiryas Yoel Hatzolah. (He’s the one wearing the kasket)
Oy do we miss The Satmar Rebbe!!!! Reb Yoel do we miss you!!!
… hopefully they will be together in Williamsburg trip. BTW, please don’t exaggerate the situation, it is so humanly common for someone to travel in the group he is comfortable. Why forcing, imagine all the grueling repair work they need to do in their own relationship, how much more it is harder to do in front of outsiders.
Why there is no pictures of Zaki?
KEEP UP THE GOOD EFFORTS AND IT WILL WORK IYH
I see Rabbi Zirkind was not mekabel the psak of the zablo he went to both brothers in the Rabbis delegation. Or is it sign that he is planning to run for 3rd Rov?

Ahavas yisroel, When it comes to grief it cuts thru the political lines, we are all beni avraham
It may be a good idea to get rid of ALL the people around BOTH Rabbonim, including family members, Mazkir etc. The community should hire ONE totally independent and neutral Mazkir for both of them. Have both Rabbonim work in the same office. The community, including the Vaad hakashrus etc. should not give a single penny in salary to ANY individual who has fought on EITHER SIDE. The entire staff of the vaad hakashrus etc. should consist of individuals who have had ABSOLUTLY NO PART in any of this disgusting fighting amongst the Rabbonim. We need to give the Rabbonim… Read more »
