THATS NOT A REAL MECHITZA! because you can see the women everywhere you stand to pray!… so why you put some chains of “jail” into the ohel.. also very ridicoulous.. who said that is halachic OK mechitza? … think about it and remove this chains that express the slavery! and do the mechitza according to the halacha..
PLEASE THINK BEFORE ACT.
AND ACT ACCORDINGLY THE HALACHA

and I like the idea of a mechitza where you are not bumping into men. I just dont like that they put it so far from the mens door giving the women very little room and the men more. Also did they put a mechitza on the other side of the square where the womens side meets the mens? Otherwise defeats the purpose.
And for those of you singles who want to check out the other side dont worry you can still stand in the middleish area and just look up. No need to rub elbows.

all the Rebbe’s guidelines are there.
That is all you need to know.
Finding your beshert is not up to a Shadchan, they are merely the channel for Hashem’s blessing. If they don’t do their job, Hashem surely will 🙂

how am i going to get married
Are you now Shaddchan bashing ?!?
That’s totally uncalled for !
By the way , most Shaddchanim don’t charge a penny for their services unless “the deal goes through”.
They put in so much time & effort and lots of heartache goes along with it.
So , please think twice before putting down our Shaddchanim !
WHAT IN HEAVENS NAME IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE????IT’S A MECHITZAH, WHICH IS A GOOD THING, WHY LOOK FOR ANY NEGATIVES YOU CAN DIG UP. LEAVE WELL ENOUGH ALONE!!!!! YES, I AM A WOMAN. CAN’T YOU JUST SAY KOL HAKOVOD AND LEAVE IT AT THAT. IT DOESN’T MATTER IF IT WILL KILL YOUR YETZER HARA TO SAY THAT! IF IT DOES ALL THE BETTER. THEN NEXT TIME YOU’LL FIND IT EASIER TO JUST LOOK FOR THE GOOD INSTEAD OF THE BAD!!!!!!
why are we all the time complaning?!?!?!?!?!?!?!… is there any suggestion or solutions to the “problem”?, all the time i see commentaries i find complains and fights, get over it and start giving advices to the people that realley work hard and tryt to mantain chabad working and being what it was before guimmel tamuz. chabad is amazing people, we have The Rebbe and his teachings, you have to see it fromt he outside and youll untherstand what im trying to say. we have to work toguether or we wont make it! Moshiach now!
You can Still see thru to find ur spouse which is good…..Actually i did feel abit like hiding behind the matzaives when there were men there…….#18 like ur comment

you need to sort out your life!
As a single guy, now I feel like now I have no chance to find my wife! This was the last place of refuge, but now… Well, I guess I’ll check again with the 1000 shadchanim that I know to see if it is not pesach, not the summer, not 1 week for R”H not… not before or after pesach… no the time her kid is getting married… not busy with anything else and can manage to donate so of her worthy time to such lowly creatures as I that would like to get married in a kosher way. If… Read more »
I believe this is long overdue. There is clearly a statement in the Gemoro about the yetzer hara being present even at a funeral. To those who don’t like the concept of mechitzos, I applaud your sophistication but please give your credentials in matters of halacha and minhag. Just because by you comes out something in a certain way, as brilliant and progressive as you may indeed be, it has no bearing on halacha or minhag. By the same tokens, I would also like to know who is the Rov that approves of the stopping the women on the street?… Read more »
The Ohel today is filled with woman who do not dress properly, therefore ,the need for a mehiza. in addition men come and say kaddish there with woman present. According to the Code of Jewish Law, one is not allowed to say psalms etc. opposite people who do not dress properly. Anyone who does not like the mehiza can pray outside
I’m impressed. The guys at the ohel seem to be doing things right… great design also.
You may not remember, but before Gimmel Tammuz, women rarely went to the Ohel.
Although the comment was really irrelevant, as we need to do what’s right regardless of what happens elsewhere, just a minor fact check to the comment about the ari’s kever — I don’t know when you were there last, but there is a separate section for men and women, both by the arizal and by the beus yosef…
I’m sure someone will tear it down as they did last time. To #14 who wrote: “It’s interesting to note that the Rebbe did not suggest or insist upon a mecitza at the Ohel” In the times of the rebbe people hardly went to the ohel, and when they did men and women weren’t there at the same time. – very rarley. Today – and ever since the 3rd of tamuz – hundreds flock to the rebbe’s ohel daily – men women and children. May it be the will of G-d almighty to send us back the rebbe in a… Read more »
Who smoked this one up? We are devolving into fanatics. The Ohel not having a Mechitza was the one last space of sanity left on the Lubavitcher map. Next we will have yechi signs!
I think it’s great. It feels proper… I’ve never been comfortable being squashed in to the Ohel with men so close to me. Kol hakavod.
oh pollllease will all of u yentas just go back and read your readers digest or yenta on-line issue. Give it a break will ya..it’s just fine and better then it was before. It also has an interesting decor to it. Dangling chains does something to the soul.
Those against it, let it go, just do your thing and leave. (while your their have us all in mind – ahvas yisroel) Many women folk are in a bind pre-chains.
Will everyone just chill and let live.
sheeees!
Who is in charge of making these changes?
The Rebbe never mentioned anything about a mechitza at the Ohel.
Why do people think they have to be holier?
I find it hard to understand the fuss. I don’t know about everyone else, but when I go to the Ohel, it is not about getting a front view of the matzeivah. And as a woman, I just care that there’s a space that I can squeeze into without bumping in to all the men.
As a female – I write thanx. As a female in the curtain / fabric biz, these chains / metal ropes are very in now – modern look for windows and doors. People – get with it!! No black chains!! It’s a very trendy fashionable look – go check it out!! Thanx again to whoever put it up.
Why is Rabbi Groner in the ladies section?!
its kind of weird. 1)the rebbe never requested it. 2)they should of made it movable so that at certain times they can move it. 3) Why do the women get so little space, a teeny corner2Pr
it’s so interesting how the attitude is everything. To those that complain that women can’t see the front of the matzeivas: is that what we’re there for? Besides, as a woman, I feel that it’s a SPECIAL zechus that we can stand close to to the matzeiva itself! In any case, the holiness of the ohel is all over, and any upgrade in tznius matters can only hasten the geulah shleimah.
I always look for girls at the ohel. Its a great place to feel the erencekiet
I seem to remember that there was instructions from the Rebbe when they were constructing the Ohel – something about having metal there. Anyone know any details?
(this would also seem to relate to the lighting installed around the sides…)
Fact is, prior to Gimmel Tammuz there was no great influx of women coming to visit the Ohel. And especially when there was a big crowd of men, such as on the Yomei Depagra such as 10 Shvat and Erev RH, it was practically unheard of for women to be present.
Therefore, there was no reasonable need for a Mechitza back then, and I think it is quite safe to assume that this is why the Rabbe did not suggest a Mechitza at the Ohel.
Oh I get it!…the front of the Ohel is for women and the back is for men!
How insensitive can you be!! True, when it’s crowded the women are generally in that area whle the men, by virtue of their anatomy, can face the matzeivos squarely….but why oh why would you want to take away any chance for a girl or woman who comes only to pour out her heart by the Rebbe…why oh why woul dyou take away from her the possiblity of facing the matzeiva??? Vu iz es gehert gevorn?? This is what we think is making us more chassidish???IT makes us more foolish, and more cruel!! If only there was just a tiny bit… Read more »
Is this Russia? why the iron curtain? I think this is wiered
my wife thinks its a good thing this way she can have privacy when she wants to cry
the men’s side seems so much larger than the women’s side, and the men’s side totally takes over the front and major part of the only side the women get. Otherwise the women are stuck in the back of the headstones and that isn’t right. I think they should have given the women the entire side.
why chains???
why not some other material for a machitza?
they look grey to me
maybe an immovable barrier would have been better as evidenced by the last photo.
What do they accomplish?
Perhaps they should do like they have in Tiverya by the Rambam where there is a full mechitza, dividing the tomb in two parts.
Now when the place is fairly empty with only one or two men a woman will feel self conscious to go beyond the chains into the mens side so she can actually face the matzeivas. why is i that women always get the backs, the ends, the sides -of everything and cant properly face the matzeivas the way the men do? Why couldnt they split it so that when the men walk in their door they walk straight ahead and put the chains right there near their door, why davka take away the small side where women can actually see… Read more »
As a woman, the separations are needed so the men don’t take over the women’s space. But those chains are pretty ugly. A normal mechitza would have been less obtrusive.
It’s interesting to note that the Rebbe did not suggest or insist upon a mecitza at the Ohel
zol zein. let it be. what next? Separate Kingston Avenue like they do for Succos. This is America, not shtetl.
Tha ARi Hakodosh does not have any fence or Black chains at his Makom Hakodosh , The Zealotz who have a problem should not come to the Ohel , The perpose is to pray and keep your eyes in the Maaneh Loshon , this is extremisim that mimics the Imoral Kollel style Tznius campain lead by those who hang around kolel looking for trouble because they cant or are not qualified for any normal work, Gates and Tarps to separate us on Kingston ave is a chilul hashem
This is not the Rebbes Shitah , or Lubavitch bichlal .
This is to appease all the Satmar chassidim that come to the Ohel and complain about there not being a Mechitza.
Maybe it’s the men that are separated by black chains?
maybe its MEN seperated by black chains!!!
How well thought out? What’s to keep the men from going around the other way to take over the room left for the women?
it’s about time
kol hakovod
BS”D
I would have never thought to have taken it that way.
I would guess and say that you may have males dominated you in your life. Try to face this, hard as it is. May Hashem help you deal with this tender issue.
well designed too
Great PR move. Women seperated by black chains!
Nothing agianst a mechitza, but watch and see what happens.
Then try and explain, outdoors, weather resitant, etc. To late the damage has been done.
kol a kovod to you I am happy you goes did this this is the way it should be
I am sure the Rebbe is very proud of that and I am sure it’s the right thing to do!!
