Mrs. Sara Fruma Junik, whose husband Rabbi Meir Yechezkel Junik passed away a few months ago, passed away Tuesday, 26 Sivan 5770.
She was 82.
Daughter of R’ Shmuel Notik, of whom the Rebbe Rashab said, “he is one of my true chassidim,” she was imprisoned at the age of 17 with her parents, because of her father’s Rabbinical position.
She married R’ Meir Junik, who passed away 6 months ago, who was also imprisoned for 9 years due to his Yiddishkeit. Mrs. Junik made it a point to educate her children on the highest level of Chassidishkeit even as the Communists were oppressing Jews and Jewish tradition.
While living behind the Iron Curtain, the Rebbe gave a personal blessing to her brother-in-law Rabbi Berel Junik that she, her husband and family would be released from Russia.
Upon receiving the much desired exit visa, Meir and Sara emigrated with their children to the Lubavitch community in Montreal, Canada (where her father-in-law Rabbi Naftoli Junik lived).
In recent years, the couple has moved to Crown Heights.
She is survived by her children Chaya Tzirel Druk of Detroit, MI; Berke Junik of Crown Heights; Shmuel of Brooklyn, NY; and Aaron of Crown Heights; grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of which many are Shluchim.
The funeral will be today (Tuesday), leaving from Shomrei Hadas at 2:15 PM and passing 770 at 3 PM.
