Violent demonstrations in Kyrgyzstan have thrown control of the Central Asian nation into doubt.
Its few Jewish residents remain unharmed but are closely observing for its outcome.
Thousands took to the streets and seized government buildings to protest corruption and spiraling utility bills.
Police opened fire on the crowds, killing dozens. The health ministry puts the death toll at 40, while opposition activists say it more than 100.
The country’s Chief Rabbi and Chabad Shliach Rabbi Arye Raichman assured VIN News that the violence has not affected as of today members of Bishkek’s Jewish community.
Bishkek is home to approximately 1,500 Ashkenazi and Bukharian Jews.
Raichman and his wife Ester run a Jewish kindergarten and elementary school in addition to a soup kitchen and a Chevra Kadisha.
