What??
April 2, 2010 8:07 am

in response to this article and all other articles the best response is NUMBER 25,take a moment and think about it!!

Label looks xeroxed
April 1, 2010 10:10 pm

The problem is that the whole label looks schlocky and forged. I would not use this product without calling the OU, regardless of the Badatz policy. And given that the OU posek is the sonei Belsky, I do not use OU certified products when another choice is available.

This year the OU introducted “OU Kitnyous” hechsher to benefit Sefardim who have been subjected to wrong information by well intentioned Rabbis for many years.

Eli
April 1, 2010 3:53 pm

Not to worry. there is no kitnios. OU-P claims that its kosher, but Badatz, which is most stricter heksher, agrees with that, but they can give their word on that. Basically – words ‘all year round’ by badatz do NOT mean its not kosher lepesach. it just means that Badatz can not grantee it

I mean, some people regard kitnius as a problem and in their eyes it is completely Osur. Just like those that say the Chalav Akum is totaly a problem though there is some kind of heter.
Meaning that the writer of this article considers kitnius BAD just like people consider chalav akum bad (even though in both cases there are those that paskan leniently). I do agree with you that halachicly speaking Chalav Akum is a COMPLETELY different case and one cannot compare regarding one case being “more” Asur then the other.

thats probebly one of the reasons why lubavitch dosent relly use prosset foods

shmaltz
April 1, 2010 11:36 am

In an interview with Rabbi Yitzchok Isaac Landau he says in days gone by, when people processed their own chickens (salting etc.), using the shmaltz you made from your own chickens was a hiddur. Today, when you buy ready-to-use chicken in the store, there is no hiddur in making shmaltz out of this processed item.

it is commendable that people strive to be stringent (machmir) especially during Pesach.
Now let us try to be stringent in our business dealings, let us pay our taxes, not abuse government programmes, take our wages in cash so we can get section 8 and medicare etc etc

sheesh
April 1, 2010 9:30 am

Theres no reason to bash the letter writer…. You can tell him/her politely that olive oil is not kitnius. mean and harsh.

kitnius

April 1, 2010 3:33 am

this is a clear case of Motzi Shem Ra. why COL would publish this article is beyond me. there is no proof that this item is in fact Chometz or Kitniyos. its on the same level as saying that vitamin water is cholov akum b/c there is magnesium lactate and calcium lactate both of which happen to be electrolytes, but if you’re ignorant enough then everything is treif and chometz. if you want to be strict DON’T buy processed foods! i would not eat in your house on pesach if your mouth has so much chometz in it, i can… Read more »

never used oliveoil on pessach
April 1, 2010 3:23 am

if on Pesach your family strives to be extra stringent don’t use olive oil or any oil.

never used oliveoil on pessach

if on Pesach your family strives to be extra stringent don’t use olive oil or any oil.

no comparison
April 1, 2010 3:14 am

to #6 Chalav Akum is forbidden to use according to halacha while kitniyos is perfectly kosher for Pesach, so no comparison and “rachmana litzlan” is better used for chometz. This in no way makes light of the Ashkenazic practice to avoid eating those foods that are in the category of kitniyos.

Nothing procesed
April 1, 2010 2:32 am

I just have to point out that you wrote “our family strives to be extra stringent.”If you do, you would not be eating or drinking anything procesed.
I agree with #4 and #5

If you have nothing better to write, don’t write at all.

The bread of emunah.

okay...
April 1, 2010 1:16 am

a) don’t just “assume” there’s a problem….

b) there are many reasons the don’t put the hechsher on (maybe the badatz hechsher for pessach is an extra $5,000)

c) if you’re so worried then be like the rest of the ppl who are concerned and don’t use manufactured products

On Badatz
April 1, 2010 12:10 am

Badatz Yerushalayim does not give hechsherim to most manufactured food products.
In such cases Chug Chasam Sofer or another reliable hechseher takes over.
OU does not give hechsherim on kitnios.

don't use shmaltz or oil as we do!!!and we have the best food

kitnius is not treif, but according to ashkenazic standards it is OSSUR on pesach and not just a chumra that came about recently because they didnt have it in russia, it dates back and is mentioned in shulchan aruch and for Ashkenazim it is totally OSSUR and therefore should not be made light of

March 31, 2010 9:43 pm

I beleive the badatz has a policy that they only give a kosher for pesach hechsher if their is a mashgiach timidi as apposed to the ou

Stick to Shmaltz!

You write in the letter
March 31, 2010 7:23 pm

“……my family could have eaten kitnius, rachmana litzlan”
kitnius IS NOT TREIF. What about the wonderful sfardim reading this who DO eat kitnius on pesach .. ur making them feel guilty of eating something that is perfectly ok and up to par on their standards. Choose a better choice of words, MW.

Mashgiach
March 31, 2010 6:47 pm

The OU holds that all extra virgin olive oil is kosher for passover as long as it has a good “year round” hechsher; no special labelingis required for Pesach. Most Israeli charedi hechsherim require mashgiach tmidi for the entire process so it is quite common to see an OU-P and a “year round” Israeli hechsher on a product.
