Many Jewish and non-Jewish residents were alarmed when the community siren sounded at approximately 11:15 pm Sunday evening.
The alarm is used every Friday to remind Jewish residents in the Brooklyn neighborhood of candle lighting before Shabbos.
Between the years 1992 and 1994 the siren was sounded every time the doctors permitted the Rebbe to come out to the specially designated balcony in the main shul of 770 Eastern Parkway, Lubavitch Headquarters.
Its sounding on Sunday excited and worried many, leaving residents puzzled as to the reason – within minutes COLlive had received many emails and text messages with inquiries.
The siren, located on top of the Chevre Shas shul on Kingston Avenue at the corner of Montgomery Street, is operated by Mendel Goldstein.
Minutes after the siren sounded, he asked COLlive to calm the community.
“Do not be alarmed,” he said. “The siren went off due to construction being done in the Shul, and the siren malfunctioned.”

I was kinda confused when I heard the siren. To tell you the honest truth it couldn’t have been Moshiach because it was a siren NOT a shofar. Although I wish it was!!!!!

when that alarm went off, i gotta say i was really worried that moshiach actually came, and im not ready, gotta do teshuva and right now.

there was a short siren that led into a long siren whenever the rebbe would say a sicha or give out dollars after maariv (before 27 adar I)

You can continue dreaming, because when the siren rang their was a kinus in 770 lechoved yud alef nisan (for mekuravim). And by the way, they were singing Yechi! (BTW. b’hashgocho protis we are now a few days after Beis Nisan where the Rebbe explains the importance of saying Yechi. Maybe that is what the Rebbe says, that Chasidim are screaming Ad Mosay! The Siren also went off, in the past, when the owner was thrown out of his Pizza Shop for not making payments and for Rabbi Marlow’s Funeral
but the truth is moshiach would blow a shofar.
comment 24 is right. Moshiach’s horn will sound a Shofar, not a siren. anyhow, a siren is a sound of terror, a shofar is a sound of redemption. may we hear the final shofar that the WHOLE WORLD at once can hear NOW!!

Whoever thinks that Moshiach is here, well, your’e wrong. It was the ‘SIREN’ and NOT the ‘SHOFAR’!
It sais that when Moshiach comes the SHOFAR will blow for the WHOLE WORLD to hear! It was the siren ans not the shofar! Believe it, or not, I am actually on the OTHER SIDE of THE WORLD and i am 100% That the SIREN was not heard here!! ;);););)

the alarm was also sounded when someone owned the pizza shop and didnt pay rent.
he got permission from the then badatz to ring the alarm so all the ppeole can come and protect the pizza shop from the mashalls.

I ran with my entire family to the Rebbes shul and we started singing Yechi by the balcany just like the good old days.
We were so upset when we found out the whole thing was a mistake. (Both the siren and Yechi)

btw, can anyone explain why before shabbos sometimes the siren goes off 20 and 10 minutes before licht bentchen, and sometimes its 10 and 5, and sometimes others? I could never figure out what it’s really supposed to be.
