A unique Torah scroll, written through the efforts of hundreds of children worldwide, was dedicated Sunday in Long Island.
Levi’s Torah, written in memory of Levi Yitzchok Wolowik OBM, who passed away at the age of 9 just a year ago, was completed at an event attended by over 500.
At a ceremony at the home of Rabbi Zalman and Chani Wolowik, shluchim in the Five Towns, family members and friends filled in the scroll’s final letters before parading in the town’s streets to the Chabad Center.
Over 700 children from 13 countries around the world participated in learning 32,387 lines of Torah, obtaining sponsorships for their learning in Levi’s memory, and raising funds towards the writing of the Torah.
The Torah dedication was one of many tributes to a young boy known throughout the community as an exceptional student with a kindhearted and giving nature.
The Wolowik family has also announced a campaign to build a children’s library in Levi’s memory. Plans for the future Levi Yitzchok Library have been drawn up, with construction to begin in the near future.
