Mrs. Raizel Perelmuter, a Holocaust survivor who raised a Chabad family in Montreal, passed away Wednesday, 3 Adar 5770.
She was 95.
She was born in Poland to a prominent Ger Chassidic family. Life changed for her when the Germans conquered the European country during the Second World War.
With G-d’s help, Raizel survived the harsh life in the ghetto and the Nazi death camps of Auschwitz and Bergen Belsen.
When the Allied Forces freed the camps, she eventually moved to Canada where she built a Jewish home with her husband Reb Shmuel Perelmuter (who passed away 18 years ago).
For over 50 years she was a member of the Lubavitch community in Montreal, raising her children Rabbi Abba Perelmuter – today the Shliach in Long Beach, CA, and Mrs. Anna Firszt who lives in Montreal.
“My grandmother had a great sense of humor and a wonderful personality,” a grandchild of hers told COLlive.com.
“She had many friends and was active in many social groups in Montreal. Although she lived through the hell of the Holocaust, that didn’t stop her from having a home full of laughter and joy.”
The funeral will be held on Friday, Feb. 19 at 10:00 am at Chesed Shel Emes, 935 Beaumont Ave. in Montreal.
Shiva will be at the Firszt residence: 5618 Edgemore, Cote St. Luc QUE.
Baruch Dayan Haemes.
