A former Israeli General and current Knesset Member Effi Eitam was a guest speaker Sunday at Chabad of Yorba Linda, California.
He was greeted by local Shluchim Rabbi Dovid Eliezrie, Rabbi Levi Blesofsky and Rabbi Shuey Eliezrie.
Titled The Threat of Terrorism, Eitam explained that the international war on terror was a battle between two different world views.
“One values universal values such as life and freedom. The other has no limits in using women and children to be suicide bombers,” he said in a charged talk.
A member of the ruling Likud party and a decorated soldier, Eitam said giving up territory for peace is not the method to ensure peace with Israel’s neighbors.
“Israel gave up Gaza and got Hamastan in return,” he stated.
He spoke with great admiration of the work of the Rebbe’s Shluchim all over the world and his strong friendship with Chabad-Lubavitch.
Eitam added that Torah life is essential to the future and survival of Israel’s residents and world Jewry.
Eitam also related an amazing story of a miracle that happened while he was on the famous Entebbe rescue mission:
“We were on the plane on the final leg of the mission to Entebbe. My plane was the lead aircraft. We were supposed to land first, lay out temporary lights for the other planes that would come in shortly after us.
“We were flying low over Lake Victoria, the massive lake bordering Uganda. Suddenly we were enveloped by a electrical storm. Our navigation was out, we could not see even the front of the plane. I was in the cockpit with the pilots, we were flying blind, very low and it was dangerous. This before the time of GPS.
“In the cockpit I decided to say a prayer. I did not know how to daven, I was a secular kibbutznik. So I said, “Hashem, we have done our part to save these people – help us.” It was a miracle, suddenly we burst out of the clouds, and we could see the airport of Entebbe in the distance.
“As we landed they doused the runway lights. Our soldiers placed temporary lights and the rest of the force landed behind us.”

good to see chabad becoming more aware and proactive about educating the world of the present dangers. jews need to know the hard facts to protect selves from the threats and accusations. not enough to be an emotional supporter.
