The need of protection is out of doubt. I hope it (the protection) will give satisfaction to everybody. Unfortunately, some people need money to protect themselves and some other to endanger the others.

Naive Crown Heighters
February 3, 2010 6:50 pm

Anyone that has ever left Crown Heights takes one look at this guys and knows that he is addicted to drugs. SIlly people in CH think that they must give money to anyone who asks and don’t think they are responsible for what happens. This guy anyone with a little common sense knows is using the money for drugs. And what about the russian mafia in 770? Why in the world do people give them money? Don’t you see that i’ts a mafia, they come all together at the same time off the subway, work the same hours, have the… Read more »

Victim
February 3, 2010 2:45 pm

All of you self -righteous people commenting here from the safety of your homes.
This thug physically assaults people on a daily basis and you have the NERVE to quote lines like “see the inside”.
Stop judging the people of crown heights for wanting to protect their wives and children.
One real encounter with him and the other druggies flooding our streets and you’ll see how fast you change your mind.

its such a good idea!!
February 3, 2010 2:33 pm

i think that jail is the place where they belong the comments they tell people in the street if they don’t get money they curse people i once got cursed by a lady because i didn’t give her anything when i happened to have no money then but i decided not to give and also once i went to kol tuv at night and that guy who went to jail because i didnt give him money he fallowed me and he was yelling at me and going crazy!! im very happy he is in jail he asked for it and… Read more »

February 3, 2010 12:06 pm

he was arrested AGAIN today.

jewish?
February 3, 2010 10:31 am

is this man jewish?

horrible
February 3, 2010 7:50 am

I agree with #18. What kind of nerve does someone have to even think of asking a poor man for change?! And yes, he may be using it for drugs, so rather than give $$ altogether, give the guy a sandwich.

2 sides
February 3, 2010 7:41 am

I don’t know the particulars of this case, but I think there are 2 very valid sides here and a balanced approach must consider both. On the one hand, we can’t stop giving every beggar because a few are doing things that are wrong. On the other hand, can we give this particular one money when we know he will use it to hurt himself? The man needs care – I think that’s obvious. However, it should be noted that it is easier said than done. I’m not sure any of you realize the complex laws involved in committing someone… Read more »

February 3, 2010 6:37 am

your comments seem to imply something very wrong here.Firstly you put down #32 for saying he just needs help.WHY? If you say there is a system in place to look after him where are they??I live in London and have never witnessed a jewish person collecting money outside a store. And then you infer that the guy has sinned and therefore he must be crazy!!!!!! I find it a violation of the torah and hashems name to say those things.Interesting that there seems to be little compassion or selflessness in your letter. Honestly, some of these comments appear to be by… Read more »

Someone who knows him....
February 3, 2010 6:34 am

He regularly signs himself out of rehab and then panhandles to feed his drug habit. Since his birth and the few years that he attended the local Yeshiva here, help was offered to the family. The mother became a “meshumad,” and her son a drug-addict.

Beggars my *%^!#, This are real criminals walking our streets
February 3, 2010 6:16 am

Why do we support them? specialy when good people from our own community are in desperate need, our yeshivos, rabbeim, teachers, so many right next to us.
This individual are taking advantage from our good harts.
Please stop supporting them, they will go away.
This are hard core dangerous and unstable individuals.
STOP SUPPORTING THEM NOW

Wow! Amazing responses! #32 chaim ur storyteller: Fantastic imagination! Think! Would ‘Moshiach’ violate The Torah?! I think this guy is Israeli, spoke to him once…sad and tragic..painful… Simple answer to all this…if this was YOUR son, brother, close friend and, since you love him so much, you suspect, but are unsure if he uses drugs, or alcohol, would you give him money, making his life more miserable? #18’s reply was smart: buy him food. Besides, one who seeks to help him/herself receives help. There’s a community council, welfare, organizations, etc. I don’t believe in ‘homlessness,’ unless it’s a very unusual… Read more »

This guy has to be put away and/or taken out of CH for good. Why wait till somebody gets hurt or even badly done. This community has to worked together, but then again it’s CH, what do you expect?

Stop bashing

His Neshama was sent down to this world for a purpose, his purpose may be to give us a test to see if we have Ahavas Yisroel or not.

Fellow Yids; Let us not fail this test, for all we know he may be a Hidden Sadik or he may even be Moshiach.

For 70 80 years a Neshama wears and tears just to do a favor for another, love him with all your heart.

why are you freaked out??

Its not a Mitzvah to help Drug Addictions
February 3, 2010 2:56 am

1st of all most of these beggars make more money then people who work 40-50 hours a week in a store. They are not poor. Besides many are drug addicts, giving someone money to feed their drug or alcohol addiction is hurting them.

February 3, 2010 1:18 am

Give the truly needy
February 2, 2010 10:22 pm

In many communities of yore the kehilla would have qa fund for charity, and specifically made takonos for people to not give money to charlatans. Why can we not do the same here, and save our dimes and dollars for erliche yidden who are trying to marry off the children in Israel? Even if their stories may be ‘enhanced’ they are at least (obstensibly) shomrei torah uMitzvos. Also, there are often bochrim collecting for mivtzoim or to rent tanks etc. I also wonder about the older Russians collecting tzedakah. Let’s ask the askonim who know the situation with the Russians… Read more »

I hate to be negative here but people live such selfish lives. As long as everything is sweet and on the surface looks good then “dont bother me”I m sure the rebbe would be horrified at this attitude.

February 2, 2010 9:02 pm

you took the words right out of my mouth. What kind of society is CH that people dont see beyond the surface??if he is a jew,he should be treated with love.V’ehavta lereacha komocha.I am truly saddened by most of above comments.just remember he is someones son/brother how would you react if it was yours??????I

u cant give this guy a red cent he needs rehab, but howabout that yenta who verbally attacks if u dont give her ,its the lady beggars also making trouble ,sorry ladies

To concerned mom.
February 2, 2010 7:33 pm

First I do not believe that you are of female gender, as if you were, you would have very little contact with the beggars in shul, as they mainly have contact with the men. Secondly the over crowding of homeless and beggars on the avenues are a direct result of the city and state cutting services from, or not keeping up with the natural growth of the needs of mental health consumers. If this is truly a concern of yours I suggest that you contact NAMI and join their petitions and protest. This way your voice will be heard, and… Read more »

Can we respect a fellow Jew?
February 2, 2010 7:26 pm

This man is a very sick man, and needs to be placed in a proper facility, if he was one of anash, you would never put up his pic, out of respect for the person.

There are thousands of individuals like him in the city. His ill behavior is a symptom on his illness.

DO SOMETHING GOOD AND DONT COMPLAIN ABOUT IT!
February 2, 2010 7:02 pm

You all think you are entitled to your money?? god gave it to you in order for you to give it to someone else in need!! Really, who ever asks a beggar for change of a dollar!? give the guy a damn dollar and walk away smile you do not have to be so mean b/c he is diff then you! and honestly will 1 dollar less really bother you? ITS ONE OF THE BIGGEST MITZVOS, even jst to smile when you walk past! and hey if you are worried that he will spend the money on drugs, you see… Read more »

February 2, 2010 4:51 pm

does anyone have a heart? this kid needs help. he could be your son or brother. he is a boy who may have had it rough growing up and now needs counseling, guidance and rehab/detox. it is not a mitzvah to “expose” him. It is a mitzvah for someone who truly cares about their fellow Jew to direct him to the help he needs. my heart breaks for him- dont dole out hatred- help him.
