Early Thursday morning, Rabbi Eli Rosenfeld of North Miami Beach, Florida, received an urgent email telling him to log on to COLlive.com.
He was one of many who learned about the tragic car accident that took the lives of Pesha Leah Azoulay (20) and Avrohom Dovid Liberow (9).
The crash sent the driver, Rabbi Zalman Liberow – director of Chabad of Flatbush, NY – to a Pittsburgh, PA, hospital in critical condition.
Rosenfeld, Director of Chabad Lubavitch of Eastern Shores who founded The Shluchim Fund a year ago, immediately set out to help – even from his far location.
The Shluchim fund was set up to assist Shluchim in financial crisis. Since its inception its members have raised and distributed hundreds of thousands of dollars.
“In general we raise and give out money for car repair, rent or food that some are in need of in these hard times,” Rosenfeld told COLlive.
Ever since founding the charity in memory of his father, Izzy Rosenfeld OBM, he receives some 3 to 5 requests a week that range between $300 to $500 each.
After reading the news that shattered the Lubavitch community, Rosenfeld called a member of the Liberow family and learned that funds were greatly needed.
By 9:32 AM on January 7 he had already sent out a mass email to his fellow Shluchim urging them to join and assist the family.
By 6:46 PM on Sunday evening, $17,000 had already been raised and transferred to the family.
“It was shocking and totally unexpected,” Rosenfeld says of the results.
“We hope this will be able to give the Liberows one less thing to worry about in light of the tragedy,” he added.
COLlive was told Rabbi Liberow remains in critical but stable condition. He is surrounded by family; his brother R’ Yisroel Liberow of Crown Heights and Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Liberow of Kfar Chabad, Israel.
“He’s sedated and is slowly improving,” Zev Cadaner, a friend of the family said Sunday.
Rosenfeld stresses that this cause is a community-wide one and calls on Anash and Chabad supporters to help too.

Zalman Liberow should recover with Hashem’s help
I already give monthly to Yadlshliach.org is this the same fund or different?
Everyone is saying what causes all these tragedies is machlokes and lack of ahavas yisroel and you have to go on here and whine about shluchim. The shluchim fund helps many shluchim who are about to lose heir homes; I doubt they can all give even $4. There may be a few shluchim who live nicely -and many of them help others – but many many more are suffering due to the economic situation. And you should know that mosdos etc.all assume shlichim have – or can fundraise- money and are all wealthy! Keep your comments to yourself To FLATBUSHDAD… Read more »
Yup many if not hundreds of simple Flatbush non-chabaniks have rallied behind Reb Zalman and his family – look while we may not agree on his views, and most really really don’t (yikes..trust me – we really don’t!)….but in the end of the day – putting that aside – this individual; father, mother and any of these kids can be counted on at any time of the day and night to help out in any way shape or form. Their ahavas yisroel is boundless and Zalman Liberow is a teddy bear of a guy. THAT is why, everyone has turned… Read more »
I am (לצערי) not a sheliach. an I think that the sheluchim give as much to tzedoko as you if not more and to make such stupid remarks it would do better if you would learn the ‘kuntres ahavas yisroel’ rather then go online.
Does anyone have information on the condition of R’ Zalman Liberow?
we are very proud of your work, Keep up the good work.
what a beautiful family, the Aibershter should bentch you with abundant revealed good!!!
PS: He really needs it. This past year the elecricity at the Chabad house was turned off for non payment of a $ 2,000.00 bill. This should be the last thing on this familys head
Thanks again Eli for working so hard to help your fellow shluchim in these hard times. Im proud to be related to you

I know the Rov personally. He is a tremendous talmid chochom who knows ‘amikus’ of torah & a very warm person in general. I wish him a refuah shleimah bimhairo.
Its so hartwarming to see so many jews banding tgthr to help a fellow yid. This show of ahavas yisroel shuld help us get over all the machlokes, and bring a refua shleima to Zalman, and bring moshiach NOW!
No one is stopping Anash from starting an anash fund. Instead of focusing on the negative, why not let it inspire you to go help other yidden? Stop whining, and do something.
to number 9
of course they will

Rabbi Yoel Freundlich is a someone who is the epitome of Ahavas Yisroel. He has given his time & energy for over 40 years to the Kehilla without asking for or taking anything in return.
He has stories from the Rebbe that are unknown, if you can get him to talk about his history (he is very modest) you will be blown away.
Besuros Tovos to the Liberow family.
it would seem that there is a difference between chassidim and shluchim like we are considered second class when it comes to be a party to good initiatives like the younger kid brother 2nd i miss rabbi leiberov soo much someone who was never nispoel in the way he beileves and these people should be appreciated and lauded even if you dont exactly agree bc he loves the rebbe and there are alot of people today who remain apathetic my own opinion is someone who truthfully represents the time of nun – nun beis responsibly should be respected and put… Read more »
Ofcourse you can give, it would be really appreciated.
Clearly you guys have some unresolved issues about not being Shluchim yourselves. Both comments were absolutely stupid and exposed your own complexes.
Many people (including Litvisher yidden who live on their block in Flatbush) are trying to do anything they possibly can, including arranging meals and carpool for the children, to help this family in their time of desperate hardship and all you could think of doing is to make a negative snide comment about Shluchim.
You should be ashamed of yourselves!

I am not a “Shliach” will they accept my donation?
BS:D
what really makes one feel proud is to see all of the schluchim and anash banding together to help one who lives and breaths yechi. Why only through tzar are our differences transcended and what really binds us as one brought to the fore.Maybe if this happened all the time and we each accepted each others opinions we might only be bonding on happy occassions.
when was the last time u gave tzedaka ???
Eli Rosenfeld’s heart knowns no bounds. Refuah Shleimah b’karov to Rabbi Liberow. It’s comforting to see “Mi K’Amcha Yisroel” in the midst of a horrendous tragedy.
Hopefully, Eli’s next donation will be towards a simcha.
There are over 4,000 shluchim worldwide. The $17,000 would average a little over $4 per shliach.
How proud are we now of our Shluchim??? This is great!! Shluchim who do not have any extra $$ giving our/their brothers money!! Mi ke’amcha Yisroel!!!
