Over the days of 19 and 20 of Kislev, even the walls of Oholei Torah were permeated with Niggunim, Farbrengens, and Chassidus. Not withstanding the restraints of it being on erev Shabbos, the 1,600 students in all divisions had a full measure of chassidishkeit and celebration.
Rabbi Sholom Rosenfeld, Director of Oholei Torah, encouraged the principals, rebbeim and hanhola to celebrate 19 Kislev with a great shturem, and chayos, as is proper for such a Yom Tov. Rabbi Rosenfeld also thanked the many families who sponsored farbrengens in their homes all over Crown Heights on Shabbos for their sons’ classes.
This massive technical organization was orchestrated by the devoted management staff headed by Mottel Bronchtain.
Kindergarten: In both school locations, grand Yud Tes Kislev rallies were held. With special Yom Tov hats, decked out in white shirts, the young kinderlach felt that it’s a special day.
Under the direction of Mrs. Faige Winner-Hertzel, the Kindergartens joined together for a special puppet show a few days before. On Yud Tes Kislev itself the children experienced a true Chassidishe Farbrengen complete with L’chaims, farbaisen, niggunim, the 12 psukim and tzedaka.
Grades Pre 1-A, 1-2 celebrated with a Melava Malka event for fathers and sons, which included niggunim, music and the pesukim. Berel Silverberg and Bentzi Wolowik said a Dvar Torah.
The Melaveh Malka was organized by Rabbi Meir Shimshoni, Principal.
On Friday, students of Grades 3, 4 and 5 became full-fledged bochurim, and davened in the Raitport Beis Medrash, with great kavonah and chayos.
Following the Davening they had a chassideshe farbrengen in the Main Ballroom, where Mendel Kugel and Moti Hertz played nigunim, watched a video on 19 Kislev and participated in a raffle.
The day’s events were organized by Rabi Zalman Goldstein, Principal.
Grades 6, 7 and 8 gathered at 7:30 am on Friday to learn Chassidus with Rabbi Levi Goldstein, who spoke of the importance of Davening with Kavonah, followed by Shacharis. “The shiur truly inspired the talmidim to daven with much greater excitement and kavonah,” commented Rabbi Hershel Lustig, Dean.
Following Davening the boys sat down for a Chassideshe “breakfast” where they heard interesting stories from Rabbi Boruch Jacobson.
On Friday night many of the classes gathered at homes of the talmidim to continue the farbrengens.
The event was coordinated by Rabbis Sholom Goldstein and Yehoshua Lustig, principals.
Beginning on Thursday night, each Mesivta class farbrenged with their mashpia, and on Friday morning they davened in 770. A general shiur in Chassidus was given by Rabbi Nissim Lagziel, followed by the bochurim going out on Mivztiom.
Friday before Licht Bentching they gathered at Oholei Torah for a pre-Shabbos farbrengen by Rabbi Dovid Kahanov, which set the atmosphere for the entire Shabbos program.
The bochurim davened Mincha and Kabolas Shabbos together, followed by Seudas Shabbos led by Rabbi Zushe Wilhelm, Menahel, and other members of the Hanhola. A ma’amor Chassdus was chazzered by Chanania Wechter and Mendel Nemirovsky.
During the Seudah, Rabbis Shloma Majesky, Chaim Fogelman and Shlomo Sternberg spoke to the bochurim.
On Thursday afternoon over 120 Oholei Torah Beis Medrash bochurim went to over 100 shuls and yeshivas in Queens, Flatbush and Boro Park to spread chassidus and speak about 19 Kislev. This project was coordinated by Gedaliah Hertz and Yehuda Drizin.
On Thursday Night, a grand Farbrengen took place in the Zal with members of the Hanhola, organized by Rabbi Nachman Schapiro, head Mashpia of the Bais Medrash.
The farbrengen’s special guest speaker was Rabbi Joseph Rosenfeld, Executive Director of Oholei Torah, who gave a heartfelt plea to the bochurim to hold their time in Oholei Torah dear, which was founded by the Rebbe, and to have an even greater devotion to Chassidus and Darchei Chassidus.
Rabbi Pinchus Korf spoke as well.
Friday Night the bochrim gathered again to eat a Seudas Shabbos in the Zal, and continued the farbrengen of the night before.
