We spend eight days of Chanukah lighting flames that we are told we must only look at and not use for any practical purpose.
For at least a half hour each night of Chanukah we are instructed to gaze at the lights of the menorah. What do we do during this time? What thoughts fill our mind and our hearts as we reflect on the flames and the miracles that brought us here?
‘Eight Lights: 8 Meditations for Chanukah’ by Rabbi DovBer Pinson, Shliach in BoCoCa, Brooklyn and Rosh Yeshiva of the IYYUN Yeshiva, is a beautiful little book that takes us through Chanukah in a most unique way.
Rabbi DovBer Pinson with his trademark deep wisdom and spiritual sensitivity, guides us through eight meditations relating to the Lights of the Menorah and the eight days of Chanukah.
There is an insightful and inspiring teaching on Chanukah and the lights for each night of Chanukah, followed by a practical meditation that can be used while gazing at the flames.
Also included in the book is an introduction to the holiday of Chanukah, a guide to lighting the menorah, with all the brachot and hanerot halalu and a separate chapter on the Dreidel – its history and deeper spiritual significance.
This book is excellent for the ‘frum’ person looking to understand Chanukah in a deeper way, and for the non-observant Jew – it serves as a beautiful introduction to Chanukah and the Menorah. Perfectly priced for a Chanukah gift – at $9.95 – you’ll want to get one for yourself too!
‘Eight Lights: 8 Meditations for Chanukah’ can be purchased at Jewish bookstores everywhere and on the web at www.amazon.com.

Can’t wait to read it. We love his other ones.
Rabbi DBs books are not superficial. although they are extremely interesting and readable, they are profound and will open a whole new perspective into the way you view Chanukah. Highly recommended.
Go out and buy it instead of reading these comments.
Always trying to sit at the Menorah and try to be inspired as the friedeker Rebbe? said “m’darf hern vos di lichteleach dertzeilen” what does this mean in practical terms, what am I supposed to be inspired by? Can’t wait to finally know!
